Hi Kim,

From my understanding the number in parenthesis is the set point which would be used for when you are eating out and have to guess and exactly how many points you are eating.

Hi overweight,

You're right. We do have heaps of people as this questions and the bad news is that the point system is a patented product registered to Weight Watchers and we are not allowed to give out that information. You might want to check with Dotti's Weight Loss Zone to see if you can learn more there.

Hi Glenda,

Weight Watchers has worked for people for decades. Congratulations on choosing a weight loss plan that meets your needs. That's the first step to losing those unwanted pounds.

I have a cousin who is in her sixties who followed Weight Watchers to lose her weight. She weighs what she weighed when she graduated from high school! And has been maintaining it for years.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes along the way.

My sister and her husband are doing Weight Watchers, and they've lost a lot of weight. My sister just had a baby like 7 or 8 months ago and she has lost 30 or more pounds since then. So I am goin to try it!

Hi Sherri,

That's very good to know. It shows you why their system is has been successful all these years. It combines healthy eating and exercise.

-- Contributed by: Donna Sundblad

I'm on weight watchers and I can tell you that they DO make exercise a priority. They even have a points earning system for activity where you can earn extra points that you can use (optional - you don't have to use them) based on the level and length of time of the activity you are doing. At meetings they encourage exercise and online they do as well.

Hi Tammy,

Weight Watchers new FlexPoints plan is designed to adapt to busy schedules and takes into consideration cravings and social pressures so its easier. Point values assigned to foods has always provided the freedom to eat regular foods, but the FlexPoint plan is a little different. It provides:

  • Daily points target based on changes as you lose your unwanted weight
  • All foods are assigned a Points value so you can eat everything
  • Dieters earn Activity Points by exercising. These points can be swapped for food.
  • Dieters receive 35 FlexPoints to spend throughout the week. They don't have to be used, but are available which adds a measure of flexibility while still achieving your weight loss goals

HI, I am thinking about joining Flex points in Weight Watchers, any info you can give me I would greatly appreciate.

Thank you.

Tammy

Hi again Richard,

I made the change.

-- Contributed by: Donna Sundblad

Hi Richard,

I believe exercise is not stressed in many weight loss programs because it is not popular. If a person has weight to lose, often their motivation and will power vacillate. Factors like emotional eating and busy lifestyles work as excuses of why it's too hard to lose weight. If a weight loss plan stresses exercises as a "must do" I think a majority of the people wouldn't take the first step toward losing weight. With that said, let me also say that I agree with you. Exercise is key to a healthy lifestyle. Our bodies are designed to move. The problem is that a large sector of society holds that "Magic Pill" mindset. The closer they can get to it the happier they will be--but maybe not the healthiest they can be.

-- Contributed by: Donna Sundblad

Below, I meant positive points, not negative points.

-- Contributed by: Richard Brown

Quote: Another disadvantage is the plan doesn’t make exercise a priority. Regular exercise is important for both overall physical health and long-term weight control. Most people will find it difficult to reach their target weight without increasing their daily physical activity.

While exercise isn't a "priority" on the plan, WW does emphasize Activity Points, which allow a person that exercises various positive points that can be added to the daily point scale. For example, if a person exercises at a moderate pace for 30 minutes (like a 30 minute walk), based on that person's weight, they can add additional points to their daily point total, something like +4 points. That right there is encouragement enough and an incentive to get exercising. You can make an 8 point meal a 4 point meal by walking for 30 minutes after you eat that meal.

I honestly do not believe any of these "diets" or WOE plans "stress" exercise, but most if not all will say that adding any form of exercise will enhance the plan. It's just like the disclaiming stating that a person should see their doctor first before starting a diet or exercise plan. I can almost guarantee that most people don't see their doctor first, just like most people would rather have a magical pill to lose the weight without exercising or be on a "eat whatever you want and still lose the weight" type of diet. Exercise is always key to a healthy lifestyle.

Hi Soon2beskinny 73,

Congratulations! You are so right. You can't put a price on good health. Keep up the good work. The benefits are priceless.

Hi Think Thin,

Going to the meetings offers interaction with others and time to share ideas for meal ideas. Other low point foods not from the Weight Watchers brand are also promoted by the program. Most vegetables have no points. Look up points for other foods and create your own low-sodium meals.

I have been on the weight watchers diet and couting points now for the last 18 months and I have lost 60 lbs. which is farther than I have ever gotten at any other diet out there, and believe me I have tried them all. I never have gone to a meeting but I did subscribe to the online weight watchers where they give you all the tools, although this has gotten exspensive for me at 16.95 per month but to me it's worth it because my health is much more important than the money! I like WW , it works for me!

I never went to a meeting. I know a co worker who did and she lost about 40 pounds in a year. She did cheat at times. Anyway, I decided to give it a try and purchased the frozen meals in my grocers frozen aisle and decided to give the plan a go. I was losing on average 3lbs per week. HOWEVER, the variety of meals is low and toting around a flat cardboard box with the same Salisbury steak meal is ANNOYING. It isnt always convenient to heat it up either. As I said, I didnt go to meetings so I didnt have the card that tells you what to eat and how many points it is. So, another problem was my blood pressure... SKY HIGH. Apparently you have to prepare for the high salt content of these preserved frozen foods. Other than that... go ahead and do three meals a day and lose your 3lbs a week which is a healthy amount to lose over time.

P.S. for 60 a month I can buya new outfit to reward myself.

The meetings are just to expensive for some of us. I do it on my own. you can buy all the materials to set up on your computer on ebay for $5.00. Just elimanate white foods, cut back on sugar and fat.

I was always small, only 4'11" I should be small. Before my first pregnancy I was 100 lbs soaking wet, that may disgust some people but that was right in there for my BMI. Anyways, I gained over 109 lbs with my son. Yes that's right 109 lbs gain. I was over 209 when I stopped looking at the scale. I had to have C-section and I couldn't breastfeed because my son was Lactose intolerant. This caused severe weight loss problems for me. I became depressed with my appearance and lazy. I never had to worry about what I ate before but now everything I eat just attached itself to my thighs or stomach. My husband was very kind in keeping his comments to himself and it wasn't until almost 3 years later that my sister started weight watchers. I went home to visit her and she look amazing. I was so jealous that I cried all night long, that night I made a conscious decision to change. No one else was going to do it for me. I began an exercise regiment, many videos and books including "Walking off the pounds" which I highly recommend. But I didn't loose as much as I had hoped. I wanted another baby and I didn't want to be fat when I got pregnant, I thought it would be to dangerous. So I asked my sister if she could introduce me to the Points system. I am now down to 115 lbs and just found out I am pregnant with my second child. I couldn't be happier. The points system was easy and efficient. I ate a hight protein diet using the points system because I heard that protein could aid in weight loss, same with calcium. I made sure that I took a balanced multi vitamin to help with any deficiencies I may have had... now i can enjoy pregnancy a second time and hope that all goes well!! I don't plan on gaining 100 lbs again, but am thankful my points counter will be waiting for me when I'm done!

I am 60 years old. I have always had a weight problem. I have wasted so much money on diets that it is not funny. Wasted is the word. A little, beautiful, girl or model, stands up in front of you and tells you how easy it is to lose weight and makes you believe it. OK you get the product and try it. Suprise, Suprise, it doesn't work. The next beautiful girl and awesome man comes on and tells you something else about their product. WOW, it does't work either. I was promised a new body and this is going to help me get it. At 5 and 6 years old my father threatened my sister and I with a dose of cod liver oil if we didn't eat. Well what would you do? YOU EAT. At eight I was taken to the doctor. He gave me RJ8's, Speckled Birds, and various other diet pills. Well at 8&9 I was up day and night, but I lost weight. When I was a sophmore in High School, I was heavy and my mother made my clothes. They were very nice and well made. My home economics teacher used me as an example against the head cheerleader and her stylish clothes. You see this happens to all heavy people. They make fun, pick on you and make you look stupid in front of everyone. If you haven't had a weight problem, you don't know what it feels like. I picked WEIGHT WATCHERS because I heard alot about it and went to a meeting and guess what, there were people like me. They were not fat, they were like me, trying to do the same thing I am. They didn't make fun of me. I didn't have to wear a pigs nose, and they don't make you feel bad about yourself. Everyone takes part in the meeting and "GUESS WHAT" noone makes fun of you. I have a weight problem, and I have to deal with it. At the end of the meeting you are told, 'HOPE TO SEE LESS OF YOU NEXT WEEK" and they mean it. So feel good about yourself, come join us! Hope to see you there.
