Hi Mrs. Arvee,
The original plan recommends not taking any drugs, but I've known people who have continued to take their prescriptions who followed this detox. I'm of the thinking that we need to approach it with common sense. Talk to your doctor and see what he says.

-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladCan I do this detox and still take my birth control pills which are orthro tri cyclen lo? I take the pills to balance my hormones so my ovarian cyst are subdued. If not could I modify the detox becuase my body really needs a detox.
-- Contributed by: Mrs. AryeeHi Jenny,
I would not recommend a detox such as this if your are pregnant. Your baby needs proper nutrition to develop.
Donna
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladCan I try this detox if I am pregnant? I have read loads of good reviews and I bought the master cleanse at dietintuition.com but I don't want to start it if its dangerous!
-- Contributed by: JennyHi Ana,
The key to this detox diet is following the recipe exactly. I don't make my lemonade mixture ahead because it gets spicier as it steeps. If you want to make it ahead, just don't add the pepper until you're ready to drink it.
As for the tea, sorry no sugar. Over the years I've actually taught myself to drink my tea without sugar, something I never thought possible. Good luck with this. Let me know how it turns out. I've done this fast three times now over the last three years.
Donna
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladTomorrow I will be starting the diet. I just made a day's worth and sneaked a quit taste. So far it tastes good, just very spicy. I like spicy =) lol. Just have 1 question. I need everything in my life to be extra super sweet. When I make koolaid people say I make syrup instead because of all the sugar I add. Although from what I tasted the mix is ok but I can not drink the tea by itself. Tonight since it is the 1st night I added sugar, but I'm quite sure it is not recommended. Any suggestions?
-- Contributed by: ANAHi Kyrsten,
As far as I know, the cleanse would not affect YAZ, but it would be best to ask your doctor to find out for sure.
As for exercise, you'll be surprised at the energy you have while on this cleanse. When I've done it, I've been able to continue walking with no problem. However, since you're not eating protein, you don't want to do weight bearing exercise.
This cleanse provides nutrients where as a water fast does not. If you go with a water fast, I would not recommend exercise.
Here are a few more articles you may find helpful:
Donna
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI am thinking about starting the cleanse tomorrow however i have a few questions... I am on YAZ (birth control) and I was wondering if this would effect it?? I was also wondering can I continue working out during this time?? I need to lose weight and I was wondering if it would be more effective to just not eat food and drink water or do the cleanse?? I know it's not meant for losing weight but losing weight is something i have to do.
-- Contributed by: KyrstenHi Confused,
I put less cayenne in mine, too. Plus I learned not to add the pepper until just before I drank it so that it didn't turn the drink spicy before I downed it. I'd mix, drink fast...with a straw. That helped me taste the pepper less.
If you keep throwing up, I'd forget about it and choose a different cleanse.
Donna
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI was extreamly sick...throwing up all day the first day. Everytime I took a drink of the lemon cleanse drink I gaged. I had to put less cayenne then it asked for, I was not able to drink it unless I did so. Is that ok that I put less cayenne pepper in the mix? Will that make a huge difference in the cleanse? Will I be throwing up eveyday? I'm only on my second day now, but yesterday I was not able to drink much since I kept pukeing my guts out.

I think the third day is always the hardest for me, but then it gets easier. Congratulations on your 9 pounds. I wonder if your hives are a result of detox.
Donna
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladIm working on my 7th day the first 3 days were the worse. But now Im breaking out in hives!! Ive lost 9lbs so far
-- Contributed by: TinaHi Eileen,
This is really a cleansing fast and it does contain maple syrup. I would suggest you talk with your doctor to get his opinion before trying it.
Donna
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladIs the lemonade diet OK for diabetics?
-- Contributed by: Eileen D.Hi Sal,
Actually the main reason Grade B was originally recommended had to do with how Grade A was processed. It's no longer an issue, so you can use regular maple syrup if you don't find grade B.
Donna
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladIf I cannot find Grade B maple syrup, what can I use as an alternative?
-- Contributed by: SalHi Cristal,
I've never heard that it's okay to eat any food on this cleanse. It may not be for you.
Donna
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI need to know why these symptoms are occuring.
-- Contributed by: What about light headed, dizziness and sweatingIt's my 1st day on the Lemonade Diet and I am absolutely starving. Lots of lemondae and water, but still starving. Heard it was okay to eat a citrus fruit or berries. Going to give it a try unless someone has a better idea.
-- Contributed by: cristalHi Originalamy,
Never heard of either one. The Master Cleanse diet is easy and works. No other things to buy other than the simple ingredients.

David Kirsch's DK 48HR LemonAid Detox and Simply Slender's LemonMade Diet.

-- Contributed by: originalamyHi Lynn,
You can find it at health food stores and online. However, the reason it was originally Grade B is in how it is processed, but today you can use regular maple syrup if you can't find grade B. I've used regular maple syrup the last two times of done this cleanse.
Donna
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladHi where could i find the syrup? Could it be any kind or does it have to be a certain kind?
-- Contributed by: LynnHi Laura,
You can find the recipe here.
Donna

That's a good question. In my opinion if they are 100 percent natural, it wouldn't hurt.
Donna
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladIs it ok to take my acui berry pills while on the Lemonade diet????
-- Contributed by: BenitaHi Edge,
1/8 tsp. of Cayenne is recommended, but that makes it a little too spicy for me. I usually use about half that.
Donna
-- Contributed by: Donna Sundbladi want to try but the portion of cayene as part of the engredients is not clear, what woulb be the ration. tnx
-- Contributed by: edgeHi Shay,
I find for me that it is better not to step on the scale until I'm done. It can really be disheartening. I'll be starting Monday, bought my lemons and all the other ingredients today.
Donna
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladHi Donna, Thanks for your response, really helps a lot cause I was thinking about quitting. Well I'll hang in there, cause I'm not tired, hungry or anything. It's just that the weight was puzzling me. After all that's why I did the cleanse to begin with, thanks again. Shay
-- Contributed by: ShayHi Marymac,
Congratulations! 18 pounds, that's amazing. If all goes according to plan, I'll be starting the Lemonade Diet this coming Monday. I've done it twice before and am always surprised by the energy I get while on it.
Donna
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladToday is my last day on the 10 days lemonade diet. The first three days were hard but I had thought about this for 2 weeks, then I went on it. I have lost 18 lbs and I feel just great.
-- Contributed by: maryrmacHi Nikki,
This is the best place to reach me on diet topics. I'll be doing this detox again starting the first Monday in May. I call it my spring cleaning. :)
You really don't need to drink it every hour. I usually drink anywhere from 6-8 glasses in a day.
Donna
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladThanks Donna! Can you keep in touch with me? I did buy some veggies and tuna and very very light food in case I have a drop. I read to drink the drink every hour, and again if i felt funky. I'm glad you felt better, hopefully I will too. My biggest fear is the hyp.
-- Contributed by: nikkiHi Nikki,
You should check with your doctor before trying this to see what he recommends. The drink does have maple syrup in it, so I don't think it will be a problem for you. I have passed out three times in my life, but when on this detox I felt great and had enough energy to go for a walk everyday. Let me know how it goes.
Donna
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladHey guys I need some thought here. I am hypoglycemic and have put on a ton of weight and in my family the more weight we put on, we become diabetic. So I wanna get this weight off fast, and try to continue weight loss with eating. My fears here are the dizziness and sugar drops. Do you have any suggestions? I saw earlier you can eat a light dinner. What exactly is a light dinner? Like a salad or something with veggies? Thanks guys, I'm excited and scared at the same time. Don't wanna to end up passed out somewhere.
-- Contributed by: nikkiHi H,
That is approach that is used by many and should world for you if you are trying to lose weight. The lemonade mixture is satisfying and will help curb cravings and snacking during the day. Good luck with this. Let us know how it works for you.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI am considering doing the lemonade drink for breakfast and lunch then eating a light dinner. Thoughts?
-- Contributed by: H.Hi Lauren,
I have done this diet twice. The more you have to lose the faster the weight comes off following this cleansing diet. However, once you start eating again, you will gain some of it back. My daughter lost over 20 pounds in three weeks, while I lost 15.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladHi iam about to start the diet. Im not doing it for a detox just to loose weight fast.. will this work does it really make you loose weight someone help!
-- Contributed by: laurenHi Irma,
I've done it twice now, and I agree. The first few days are the hardest, but not nearly as difficult as I thought it would be. I've also learned to wean myself off caffeine before I start the cleanse so that I avoid the headache that comes from withdrawal.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI tried the Lemonade diet, it did work, it is a bit difficult the first 3 days, after that you dont even feel the difference, it helps because after the 10th day your body will only ask for healthy food, like veg, fruits, etc
-- Contributed by: IrmaHi Sheree,
I don't know if that will work. The cayenne is in each glass, would you plan to take a pill each time? Read the Master Cleanse Interview with Peter Glickman for a better understanding of how all the ingredients work together in this cleanse.
-- Contributed by: Donna Sundbladcan i substitute the fresh cayenne pepper with a cayenne pepper pill?
-- Contributed by: shereeHi Jackie,
I wouldn't recommend it unless you talk it over with your doctor first. Never stop taking your medication without talking things over with your doctor, and following something as extreme as this cleanse should also be talked over with your doctor.
With that said, I have followed this cleanse twice and plan to do it again. It is a great way to cleanse the body and not feel hungry.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI would like to try this but I am on medication I cannot stop. Can I still do this with my medication? It is to lower my blood pressure.
-- Contributed by: JackieHi Sonya,
You'll be amazed at the lack of hunger. The headache is a sign of detoxing and withdrawal from probably sugar, caffeine or both. It usually goes away after the third day. How many days do you plan to follow the diet?
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladHey all,
This is my second day on the diet and I feel good, not hungry. Although food smells really good, I don't want it. I do have a headache that I wish I didn't have, but my spirits are high and would like to work out this week along with it. I hope that it helps.
-- Contributed by: sonyaHi Brit,
I personally have horrible headaches if I don't wean myself from caffeine before starting the cleanse. The headaches are debilitating. I've gone through this enough times now, that I've learned to stop drinking caffeine before I do a cleanse.
Let us know how it goes. You're almost through the worst part!
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladHi, I've been on the cleanse for three days. It's my second attempt. The first time I wasn't committed enough. I drink the tea at night, which gives me a stomachs ache by morning so I do the flush and feel relieved. I have horrible headaches and body pain almost everyday, all day. I'm hoping getting rid of the toxins and after that, eating better will help me.
-- Contributed by: Brithi I've been on the cleanse for three days. It's my second attempt. The first time I wasn't committed enough. -- Contributed by: BritHi Mike,
You should do the salt water flush in the morning and drink the tea in the evening. If you read the interview with Peter Glickman, he gives the whys behind that thinking.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI'm three days into it now. Besides some hunger pains, I've not experienced any problems. I will be doing the sal...er flush this evening.
-- Contributed by: Mike McKeeverHi HD,
I've followed this cleanse a couple of times now and did not feel hungry, and had enough energy to exercise and carry on with daily life. Just stay in tune with how you feel and be sensible. Stop back and let us know how it goes.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladHi Victoria,
I've never heard of citricdiet. Do you also eat on this diet? If not, why would you take phaseolamin?
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladHi,i've just started this master cleanse,i hope i go through it safely...
-- Contributed by: HdHi, I have found in the web citricdiet, that lemon has a high concentration of citric acid, which makes your body burn fat. That's why the lemonade diet works. Moreover, citricdiet is a powdered soft drink mix, easily taken wherever you go, and makes this diet easy to follow.
Moreover, they recommend to take phaseolamin to avoid fatty acid synthesis from carbohydrates like bread or french fries. They send you the products by mail, and all the information is free, it is on the web.
Just an easy way to lose weight!!!
-- Contributed by: VictoriaHi Fifo,
The Lemonade Diet, also known as the Master Cleanse diet starts the day with a salt water flush. Then you drink the lemonade mixture throughout the day along with water. When I followed the cleanse I drank the lemonade about every two hours. You conclude the day with a diet tea. You can learn more in these articles:
- Ingredients in Lemonade Diet
- How to Lose Weight on the Lemonade Diet
- Master Cleanse Interview with Peter Glickman
Let me know if you have any other questions.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI don't get it. How many times do you drink a day and what time of the day do I drink it? Also do I have to put pepper and maple syrup in it?
-- Contributed by: fifoHi Marie,
I suggest you read the Master Cleanse Interview with Peter Glickman as he explains the role of the salt water flush and tea in down-to-earth terms that make sense. There are some alternatives, so check it out.
As for your birth control, I can't say for sure. The cleanse removes toxins from your system. I suggest talking to your doctor about the effect a cleanse may have on your birth control just in case.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladIs the laxitive and salt water a must? And is this cleanse going to make my birth control less effective
-- Contributed by: MarieHi Han,
It is recommended that you quit smoking during the cleanse as the body will be cleansed of toxins.
-- Contributed by: Donna Sundbladcan you smoke on the lemonade diet?
-- Contributed by: hanHi Jackie,
I would recommend you find another diet. This really is a cleansing fast. What you should look for is a low calorie or low-carb diet which allows you to eat so you can take your medications. If you really want to do a detox, take a look at the following:
If I do the lemonade diet, I take a aspirin everyday and take blood pressure med. Can I do the diet?
Thank you.

Hi Gracie,
No, I would not recommend it because Aunt Jemima has no real maple syrup in it. The darker the grade of maple syrup, the more minerals it contains. That's why grade B is used instead of grade A.
-- Contributed by: Donna Sundbladi was wondering if maple syrup could be substituted with aunt jemima syrup for the diet
-- Contributed by: GracieHi Stefanie,
Yes, you can change lemons for limes for variety. As for the multi-vitamin, I'm not really sure. This cleanse really cleans out your system, so the vitamin won't be in your system for long. I'd take it after the salt water flush has worked through you to at least be sure it stays in your system long enough for you to absorb.
I plan to start tomorrow. I was wondering, can I change up between using lemons and using limes for a little variation? Also, can I continue to take a multivitamin? I have severe anemia issues and don't think it's wise to be without iron for 10 days. Any suggestions?
-- Contributed by: StefanieHi Deseree,
The last time I did the Lemonade Diet (Master Cleanse Diet, I did it with my daughter for 21 days. It wasn't as hard as I thought, but it did have challenging moments. Having a friend to do it with you does help. I have to say, doing it at holiday time would be an extra challenge. Good luck. Let us know how it goes. How many days are you doing it?
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI am currently on day 5 of the cleanse. I am not gonna lie this is a huge undertaking and can be difficult at times. But half way through I already see and feel results. My sister-in-law and I are doing it together, we can encourage each other and it has been great.
-- Contributed by: DesereeHi Angela,
What great news. Thanks so much for sharing your story with us. Your experience will encourage others.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI went on this cleanse and felt amazing afterward. I did not crave the sugar and caffeine I did beforehand. As a side effect, I did suffer a hormonal imbalance that prevented pregnancy. After the cleanse and sticking with recommended eating, I found out I was pregnant. This was a short three months after the cleanse. Diet and cleansing can set your body back to normal.
-- Contributed by: AngelaHi Michelle,
Before I start this cleanse, I wean myself from caffeine and sugar because those are the two culprits most often responsible for headaches. If you do that, you'll be surprised how easy the transition to this fast can be. I was not hungry, had plenty of energy and had few cravings. Good luck. Let us know how it goes.
-- Contributed by: Donna Sundbladhello, i am starting the cleanse in 2 days, i took a long weekend off work because i deal with people daily and i am worried about the initial side effects. i get cranky/ and get headaches if i don't eat. my question is: how do i diminish/ prevent these side effects
-- Contributed by: michelleHi Sasha,
The ingredients are included for a reason. Cayenne pepper, is a key ingredient. It breaks up mucous and acts as a cleanser for the digestive, respiratory, and circulatory systems. Burroughs says not to use honey; it is predigested. Hope that helps.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI just started the lemonade diet and although they say we are not supposed to substitute ingredients, I prefer organic honey to syrup and I skip cayenne pepper(I cant eat spices). Do you think this will compromise the diet significantly?
-- Contributed by: sashaHi Misty,
When I make the lemonade mixture, I add the cayenne pepper at the last moment, stir and drink it down. The longer it steeps, the spicier it gets. Thanks for letting us know your thoughts on the product.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI tried Simply Slender and I didn't like it. It seemed that the concentration of cayenne was much too strong, probably from sitting. I like the taste of the fresh lemonade much better and, like Donna said, it's less expensive.
-- Contributed by: Misty KaramYes, it's a premixed product that will cost you more in the long run. I haven't tried it. The original recipe is not difficult to make, and I know it's fresh.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI saw in Cosmo there is a modernized version of the Lemonade Diet called Simply Slender. Anyone tried it?
-- Contributed by: PnutHi TM,
Congratulations on your weight loss. I'm glad to hear you are monitoring you sugar. I've just finished this detox diet and lost 12 pounds, and my daughter lost 21. It is amazing that you can feel great while not eating, isn't it?
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI have been on the diet for 6 days and I have lost 10 pounds already. I fill good also I am a diabetic I have been checking my sugar four times a day and it has gone down. When my sugar seems to get too low I eat about five carrots. But I feel great. I'm only staying on the diet for 7 days.
-- Contributed by: TM Las VegasHi Peyton,
I totally understand how you feel. The first time I did this cleanse I only did it for 7 days, just to see if I could. This time around I'm going for four weeks, and I'm making exercise a regular part of my life (at least 5 days a week).
Good luck with eliminating sugar. My suggestion between now and then. Don't eat it unless you start to get a headache and then just eat a little to help the headache go away.
Yes, do stay in touch and let me know if you have any questions.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladWow, Mrs. L,
That's awesome. Not everyone loses in the same way. Those who have more to lose, usually do lose more. My daughter and I started together. She had 50 pounds to lose and I had 20. As of day 18, I've lose 10 and she has lost 16.
You will experience weight fluctuations even on a fast. Don't get discouraged if your weight stays the same or even goes up a little. It won't stay there.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladHi Robby,
I'm on day 18, and almost have no cravings. Don't think they ever go away 100 percent. However, it teaches me that I can go without. It's helping me to retrain my thinking.
Good luck. Stay in touch and let us know how it goes.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI lost 5 pounds the first day.
-- Contributed by: Day 1 on the Lemonade DietI plan to start the diet on Sunday Oct. 19. I drink very little caffiene but do eat foods with sugar my weakness. I will try to eliminate sugar as much as possible before Sunday so maybe that will help with the headaches. I am looking forward to it as much as I am nervous. Keep you posted . . . .
-- Contributed by: Peyton JacksI started this past Sunday night with my last meal (pizza and beer) and then the tea. I had also cut back on soda (my caffeine) and was eating less with more salads. Monday was tough and the cayenne pepper was killing me. I cut back on the pepper and things are better from that point. The tea is getting me up in the middle of the night but I'll work through that. Today is Wednesday and feeling pretty good, still would like to eat but craving is going away.
-- Contributed by: RobbyHi Peyton,
When do you plan to start? I'm following right now for 28 days and am on day 15. I'm feeling fine and have enough energy to make it through my day and even exercise (moderate walking) 30 minutes each day. To make the withdrawals less, I cut out caffeine before I started the fast because that always gives me the worst headache. I did have a dull headache the first two days...probably sugar withdrawal.
Let me know if you've got any questions. We're here for you.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI decided the lemonade diet is the right detox diet for me from all I have read about the different diets. I am a little nervous about the withdrawal effects like headaches, nausea, etc. I will do my best and may need support!
-- Contributed by: Peyton JacksHi Shawna,
No food is allowed on this cleanse. With that said, this cleanse is not for everyone. Read the link in my last response to you and let me know if you have anymore questions.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladHi Shawna,
First let me say the headache can be caused by withdrawal from caffeine and/or sugar. When I do this cleansing diet I wean myself off coffee before I start because the headache is so bad it can make me sick.
When I interviewed Peter Glickman he said that, "women generally lost 12 pounds, men generally 16, and both tended to put back on 6 pounds." For more information you can read the entire interview here.
The first time I tried this diet, I lost 5 pounds in 7 days. The more weight you have to lose, the more you tend to lose, so it will depend on you.
I'm currently on day 12 this time around and I've lost just over 6 pounds but my daughter has lost 10. I hope that helps. Let me know if you have more questions.
-- Contributed by: Donna Sundbladi have one more question, could i eat a bowl of bran cereal a day because i have a condition where if i don't eat i get very irritable, and i used to be way under weight so now my mom watches my eating closely. would one bowl of sugar free cereal help or hurt?
-- Contributed by: shawnai tried this last week and it gave me such a migrain i quit after 2 days. but my sister talked me into doing it again so we are starting tomorrow morning. we have a family reunion in november, can anyone tell me how much weight you lose and how long it takes? also, do you gain the weight back after the diet?
-- Contributed by: shawnaHi Naneisha,
I'm on day 5. I understand getting "tired" of the drink, but the idea is to get our focus off food. If there's one thing I can say, I only drink the drink when I start to feel hungry. About every two hours. Also you can drink herbal tea between drinks.
The last time I did this cleanse, I had vegetarian vegetable soup the following afternoon...orange juice in the morning. I'm not saying that's what I recommend, but that's what I did.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI am currently on the diet I have been on it for 4 days now, but I am never a good eater to begin with so not eating wasn't hard for me at all. But I am getting tired of the drink -- to drink just one thing over and over again. I am getting sick of it, otherwise I can go without eating for days, but I normally drink other stuff. Thats my only challenge. I am worried though. I just read that I should not eat until 48 hours after I end the diet. I want to know if I don't wait that long, what will happen. If anyone knows the answer please let me know.
-- Contributed by: NaneishaHi Sophie,
I tried to respond by email without success so I hope you check the board at LoveToKnow.
You can purchase the Grade B maple syrup at your local health food store or online. Here's a link to help. As for cayenne pepper, you can find that at your grocer among the spices, and the dieters tea is also available in the tea section. The one I use is Laci Le Beau Super Dieter's Tea, but there are a variety of dieters teas. You can ask about them at your health food store too.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladHi,
Where can I buy Grade B maple syrup, the cayenne pepper and what laxative tea should I buy? Please tell me.
-- Contributed by: sophieHi again Valorielynn,
Wait until you finish with the cleanse and start transitioning back to foods.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladHi Valorielynn,
The first time I did the Lemonade Diet, I only did it for 7 days because we had guests coming to visit and other things going on. It was a good experience. I weaned myself from caffeine before I started to avoid the withdrawal headache.
You can benefit from following the plan for 5 days, but you'll feel so good you'll probably go to 10.
It just so happens I started this diet today for my "fall cleaning".
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI have another question, if you don't mind? I have heard that you should use probiotics as well to put the "good" bacteria back into your body. If this is true, should you take the probiotics after you finish the cleanse altogether, or can you take them when you are transitioning your body back to regular comsumption of food (during the last 3-4 days of the cleanse when you drink orange juice and eat vegetable soup)?
Thanks so much again for your time!
-- Contributed by: valorielynneaseI really would like to try this cleanse, but I am not doing it for weight loss purposes, it is mainly for health reasons and wanting to feel better and have more energy throughout the day. Although I am not wanting to lose weight, I know that will come with the elimination process, but what if I only want to do the lemonade diet for 5 days instead of 10. Would it still have the same effect as to rid toxins from my body if I don't do it for the recommended minimum 10 days?
Thanks in advance for your response. And thank you for being here to help others at no charge with so many important questions which has helped me make an inform decision as to what route to take to achieve optimum health. Thank you, you are a blessing!
-- Contributed by: valorielynneaseHi Hugh,
I thought the same thing when I first heard about this diet...and then I realized it is not really a diet but a cleanse. It has been practiced for decades now. For more information you may want to read the Master Cleanse Interview with Peter Glickman for some great insight.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI think that this is a stupid diet and that it will hurt you seriously. And I think that it is not safe for your body!

-- Contributed by: BOBAGHANOUSHHi Heather,
Unfortunately, lemonade is made with lemons. I know there are benefits to drinking lime juice as well, but they are not in season either.
For now, if you're looking to do a different Cleansing Diet until lemons are in season.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI was wondering if there was anything I could use instead of lemons, lemons are not in season right know.
-- Contributed by: heatherHi Neffs,
The salt water flush does clean the entire digestive track and the laxative tea taken before bed helps to loosen hardened fecal matter to be flushed the following morning. It is a process.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladThe salt water flush is excellent in flushing my system, however I need to know how well does it clean hardened fecal matter?
-- Contributed by: i and iHi Annie,
It would be best to talk it over with your doctor to see what he recommends. While the salt water flush goes right through you, the salt may still present negative health effects for you.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI have high blood pressure. Can I take the salt?
-- Contributed by: annie spencerHi Marilyn,
This is a cleansing fast and no food is eaten.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladCan you eat while doing the diet? What kind of food is allowed?
Thanks.
-- Contributed by: MarilynHi Nathalie,
The ideal is to take no drugs, but stopping your birth control when you plan to resume it anyway seems a bit senseless. I'd go ahead and continue it. But the gum is no. No matter how it is sweetened it is one of things that the cleanse will work to eliminate from your body.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladQuestion! Can I take birth control pill during the cleanser diet? Also I was wondering, can I chew gum in the process since is sweet?
-- Contributed by: nathalieHi Kelsey,
I had the opportunity to interview Peter Glickman this week and asked him that exact question. The answer is yes to aerobic exercise but no to body building. You can read more here:

Hi Mike,
Chlorine is absorbed through the skin and is a toxic chemical. It is used in water treatment to reduce and kill forms of biological agents, such as bacteria and viruses. Chlorine is harmful if you drink it, when it is absorbed into our skin, and when it is inhaled in the shower. So beyond the pool, if you bathe or shower in unfiltered tap water you are inhaling and absorbing chlorine into your body that way too. The cleanse will help pull toxins from your body...whether or not you give up swimming in the pool is a personal choice.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladHello,
I am beginning the lemonade cleanse tomorrow, August 18th. I typically like to swim at the gym pool for a big portion of my exercise 3-4 times a week. Is there a chance that the body's absorption of chlorine could interfere with the cleansing process during the diet? Thanks so much for your helpful information.
-- Contributed by: Mike NelsonHi Adam,
Thanks for your input; it's right on target.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladHi Candi,
Since the lemonade diet is a fast, you may not feel up to exercise as your body cleanses the toxins from your system, but if you do, gentle exercise such as walking is fine.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI do yoga and cycle while on the clease. You may want to consider somthing less rigerous then running while you are detoxing.
-- Contributed by: Adam TylerCan you exercise while on the lemonade cleanse? I typically run 4 to 5 miles a day.
-- Contributed by: Candi RobisonHi Gerri,
The Grade B maple syrup contains significant amounts of potassium and calcium which is figured into keeping your body healthy while following this diet.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladWhy use maple syrup?
-- Contributed by: GerriHi Kaitlyn,
Not every dieter drinks water like they should. With how much liquid is expelled on this cleanse, if people don't rehydrate, there is a change it can lead to dehydration.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI don't understand the Nutritionist's statement about possible dehydration. I have been doing this diet for 3 years and every online website says that you can drink as much water as you want- so there is no limit. I have done this diet over 10 times and never once felt thirsty because I drank water. So how can this cause dehydration?
-- Contributed by: KaitlynHi Mark,
I experienced the same when I followed this cleanse. Be sure to ease back into eating according to the suggested guidelines, too. Thanks for visiting LoveToKnow Diet and taking the time to leave a comment.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI am presently finishing day 10. I know I've lost weight and I feel better. I did not notice any loss of energy or fatigue. I can recommend this 10 day cleanse to anyone.
-- Contributed by: MarkHi Elizabeth,
This is really a detox or cleanse rather than a weight loss diet. If you want to lose about 20 pounds, I suggest to go with a diet that helps you learn to make lifestyle changes that will also help you keep the weight off. Here are a few suggestions:
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladHi I'm Elizabeth, I would like to know if this diet really work (since i want to lose 20lb.), and if I should really try it if I suffer from headaches very often.
-- Contributed by: elizabethHi Jenna,
There's not much to getting ready for this diet, however, I suggest that those who drink coffee or other beverages with caffeine on a daily basis wean themselves before starting the cleanse to avoid the withdrawal headache. People who eat large amounts of sweet may also experience a headache so it's a good idea to cut back ahead of time to help your body adjust.
-- Contributed by: Donna Sundbladis there anything you should do prior to the cleanse to prepare yourself? also what are the digestive side effects (meaning will i be running to the bathroom all day)?
-- Contributed by: jennaHi Nanna,
CalculateMe is just the tool you're looking for. Be sure to ease into eating food again when you're ready to break the fast too. Let me know if you have any other questions.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladHi, I'm on my fifth day of the cleanse, and feeling great so far, only now I'm a bit concerned that I messed up the measurements for the lemonade... Think I might have used way too little lemon and syrup. Since I'm European I don't really get the ounces and stuff, any chance you could translate it to liters for me? Or, help me find a webpage with translations that is understandable! Thanks!
-- Contributed by: NannaLinneaHi Gustavo,
Every body is different and be sure to follow the instructions exactly. The Salt Water Flush is measured in teaspoons (2 level tsp. to a quart of water). Some suggest trying slightly rounded teaspoons if the level teaspoons don't produce sufficient bowel movements. When you drink your salt water flush, do your best to get the entire quart down in 15 minutes or less. Another trick is to lay on your right side for 20-30 minutes after drinking the flush. This helps it flow through the Pyloric Sphincter into the small intestine which speeds up the process. Let us know if that helps.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladHi Donna,
I am on the third day of the detox, last night I had my senna tea, and this morning my lukewarm sea salt flush.. but I had very little movement. Any suggestions?
Thank you

Every body is different, but on average people tend to lose around 10 pounds.

Being mentally prepared to follow a detox diet is half the battle. However, it's important to note that you should let your body rest between detoxing. How long ago did you follow the Lemonade Diet?
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI DID THIS CLEANSE AND IT REALLY HELPED ME ALOT, I HAD MORE ENERGY, MY STOMACH FELT MUCH BETTER, AND MOST OF ALL IT SHOWED. I WAS LOOKING HEALTHIER AND SLIMMER THAN EVER. AND I'M STARTING IT AGAIN TODAY 07-16-08, I'M READY...

The Grade B maple syrup contains significant amounts of potassium and calcium which is figured into keeping your body healthy while following this diet. The cayenne pepper is part of the diet. Let me know if you have other questions, and check back to let us know how it goes.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI'm trying it right now but I bought the grade A not B maple syrup and I also bought the cayenne pepper powder as a substitute which I hope I can take instead. I won't take any solid food while I'm on this diet?? Thanks for reading this and hope to hear from you.
-- Contributed by: shawieHi Kary,
I tried this diet and I did drop almost 10 pounds, however, a month later it was all back. The best diet is one that teaches us healthy eating habits we can carry with us the rest of our lives.

-- Contributed by: karyHi Ashley,
This is designed to be a detox diet. When I followed it, I did lose weight, but it came back on when I resumed eating. However, while I followed it, I had great energy after four days.

Hi Ana,
When doing a water only-fast, the muscle wasting does happen, but it is only supposed to last 48-72 hours. After that ketosis kicks in and only a little muscle mass is lost as long as long as your body has fat and toxins to burn. The more active you are, the more muscle mass may be lost while water fasting. Because carbs are taken in with the Master Cleanse (Lemonade Diet), ketosis never does set in and the body draws glycogen from the liver and then the muscles.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI had a baby 4 months ago. My nanny told me about this diet and I started doing it since Monday,Apr.28. I just ordered the book but I kinda got scared when I read that a guy lost mucle mass on his face.So I am not sure if I should stop now or keep doing it. I will get the book on Friday, May.2. Is it true that you can lose mucle mass when you are fasting? is there anyway you can avoid this?.
-- Contributed by: AnaHi Lesa,
For this particular diet, no food is to be taken in. You may want to consider another detox diet that allows eating. Here are a few links to give you more information:
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladOn my first day I ate a little for dinner. How will this affect my detox process?
-- Contributed by: LesaHi Jill,
If you make the lemonade mixture ahead, the cayenne pepper grows spicier the longer it sits. I would suggest you check with your doctor before starting this or any fast, detox or diet.
-- Contributed by: Donna Sundbladcan enough lemonade be made for the whole day, or each glass made fresh as needed? am on synthroid, don't feel i can be off it for 10 days or more? thanks, jill
-- Contributed by: jillHi Sita,
Yes, it is okay to use limes, just be sure to use the proper amount of fresh lime (or lemon) juice in each glass.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladHi Carly,
This is not the diet you're looking for. It is designed to be a cleansing detox and is not for long-term weight loss. If you have a little weight to lose, cut back on sugary foods, fried foods, junky snack food and eat more fruits and vegetables. Lastly, pay attention to portion control and be sure to exercise.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladIs it ok to replace lemons with limes instead
-- Contributed by: Sitaok so, im a teenager. and i just want to loose a few pounds, is this a good diet? and can i just do it for a week or so?
-- Contributed by: carlyHi Sylvia,
I'd recommend talking with your doctor to be sure this is safe for you. Instead of this fast, you might try something like the Daniel fast, but I'd still suggest talking with your health care provider before fasting.
-- Contributed by: Donna Sundbladi am on high blood pressure pills how shall i do this fast
-- Contributed by: sylvia pirsonHi Tweety,
This detox is very restrictive. No food. Only the salt water flush, the lemonade mixture and the dieter's tea. I have read some instances that allowed for the dieter's tea in the morning, but when I have tried it during the day it caused quite a bit of intestinal cramping and discomfort. The idea is for the flush to clean you out in the morning and the tea to loosen impacted fecal matter during the night to be flushed out the following morning.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI JUST STARTED THE DIET TODAY, AND IM NOT CRAVING ANYTHING. BUT WHAT I WANTED TO KNOW WAS INSTEAD OF THE SALT WATER CAN I DRINK THE TEA? && CAN I EAT ONE FRUIT A DAY? OR WHAT CAN I POSSIBLY IT???
-- Contributed by: tweetyHi Gia,
Yes, if you plan to follow this diet, you drink the salt water solution every morning to flush out your system. For me, it helped to drink it through a straw as I tasted it less.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladHi,
Well I just wanted to know--do I need to take the sea salt every day or what?
-- Contributed by: GiaHi Jen,
This is a detox diet, and one of the toxins it is supposed to clean from your body are those from cigarette smoking. So if you plan to quit this would be a great time. However, you don't have to quite in order to follow the diet.
As for the sea salt mixture: It's 2 level teaspoons of uniodized sea salt to a quart of lukewarm water. This empties the bowels within an hour or so. However, the dieter's tea is to be taken at night before bed. It works to loses impacted fecal matter while you sleep. In the morning the sal...er flushes this from your system.
You can make larger amounts of the lemonade, but I personally found the longer the mixture sits the spicier the cayenne pepper becomes. I liked it better fresh. However, here is a recipe for larger quantities if you want to try it:
- juice of 5 lemons
- 1 1/4 cup of organic Grade B maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
- 10 cups of water
Some lady commented on this and its the same questions I have. I want to start the cleanse but I am unsure about a couple things.
1. I smoke and want to quit, do I have to quit before I start?
2. If I am doing the sea salt in the mornings, do I have to drink the tea at night? and how much sea salt do I do in the morning
3. Can I only make the lemonade by the glass, or is there a recipe for larger amounts?
-- Contributed by: JenHi Alehart,
I would suggest you check with your doctor before fasting or cleansing with your previous medical history just to be safe.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI had gastic bybass and would like to do stat this cleanse. Also I'm on prozac would you recommend me go off the med for the 7 days of cleanse.
-- Contributed by: alehartHi Georgina,
This is not a diet for losing weight, but a cleansing diet that involves fasting which is not suitable for children or teens as it may initiate an eating disorder. Plus weight loss during the fast is usually put back on once eating is resumed.
Instead, I'd suggest eating a healthy diet and exercising. Cut out junk food, fried foods and sugar. Replace them with healthy snacks like fruits. You can check with your doctor for specific recommendations. You'll be surprised how much better you feel and look when you make healthy choices to feed your growing body.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI would like to start this lemonade diet, but my mother is concerned because she says i'm too young. i'm 16 years old and i would like to loose about 15 pounds, but i was wondering if it would be healthy for me. I was also wondering if i actually begin the diet, would i still have the same results if i eat only some fruits or vegatables with the lemonade.
-- Contributed by: GeorginaHi Geetika,
The Medifast Diet was designed by doctors at John Hopkins to help heart patients lose weight fast before surgery. It requires eating their Medifast Meals and one lean and green meal a day, but people average 2-5 pound weight loss a week.
-- Contributed by: Donna Sundbladi would like to know the fast way to lose weight
-- Contributed by: geetika khannaHi Esmeralda,
The salt water flush is made by heating 1 quart of filtered water and adding 2 teaspoons of sea salt. When the salt is dissolved, pour into a glass and drink. You can let it cool if you want. I found drinking through a straw helped me because you need to drink it all quickly. Between 15 minutes to 2 hours later you should have diarrhea.
The recipe for the lemonade drink can be found under this diets real name. The Master Cleanse Diet.
Diet tea can be purchased at your local grocery store.
Remember that this is not designed to be a weight loss diet but is a detoxification. Most doctors do not recommend this diet, so you may want to check with your doctor before starting.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladHI I WOUL DLIKE TO KNOW, IF POSSIBLE, CAN U SEND ME EXACT INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO FOLLOW THIS LEMONADE DIET;FURTHER MORE, EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT THE SALT WATER IS AND DIET TEA IS? ALSO EXPLAIN TO ME THE INGREDIENTS THE CONTAIN, HOW I CAN MAKE MY OWN AT HOME? I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT!
-- Contributed by: ESMERALDA G.Hi Cassie,
The point of the Lemonade Diet is detoxification. This cleansing gives the body a fresh start. It utilizes excess stored body of fat, ingests anti-oxidants in the acidic fruit, and deprives the body of what it may be addicted to including:
- caffeine
- sugar
- smoking
- drugs
- etc.
This leads to the eventual purging of toxins in your system and impacted feces. This is where the salt water flush and diet tea come in. The salt water cleanse cleans your digestive tract in the morning. When you drink the tea at night, it works to loosen impacted feces. Then in the morning the flush expels them from the body. So yes, you are supposed to drink both.
I've had others ask about making larger quantities of the mixture, but I found when I made it ahead that the cayenne pepper gets spicier the longer it has a chance to sit. Instead, I mixed it fresh each time and drank it through a straw quickly to avoid the peppery taste.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI want to start the cleanse but i am unsure about a couple things. 1. I smoke and want to quit, do i have to quit before i start? 2. If I am doing the sea salt in the mornings, do I have to drink the tea at night? 3. Can i only make the lemonade by the glass, or is there a recipe for lager amounts?
-- Contributed by: CassieHi Kia,
It is not recommended for pregnant or nursing mothers because it is a detox diet and the toxins could make their way to your baby.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI would like to began the Lemonade diet but I am nursing my 4 month old should I start it?
-- Contributed by: KiaHi Msdee,
Thanks for checking in with us. For me day three was the hardest. Congratulations on your weight loss, but remember that this is a cleansing diet. If you don't change your eating habits when you start eating solid food again the weight will come back on. Make a plan now so you are ready to keep the weight off.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladIM ON THE DIET NOW AND I BEEN ON IT FOR 2 DAYS GOIN ON 3 AND IVE ALREADY LOST SIX POUNDS. THE SECOND DAY WAS THE HARDEST FOR ME BUT IM ON DAY 3 AND IM FINE
-- Contributed by: MSDEEHi Lajoii,
I followed the Lemonade Diet for a week as a detox diet and I did lose and lost about 6 pounds. When I started eating food again, I gained back 2 pounds because my digestive tract was no longer empty. This is a cleansing plan and not meant as a long term weight loss plan. I suggest you choose something that helps you learn to make better food choices like Weight Watchers, counting calories or even the new Flat Belly Diet. And once you choose a diet plan, add exercise to your life too.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladHi Blanca,
The biggest disadvantage expressed for this diet is that it lacks necessary nutrients. However, it is also important to note that this is not really a diet, but a detoxing cleanse. As such, those who follow it may experience unpleasant detox symptoms. If you read the last section of this article you will see the other disadvantages cited.
As for advantages...it does clean out your digestive tract and give your body a rest without feeling hungry.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI really want to try this diet but I'm a bit nervous. So I need your advice, because it sounds amazing--the weight loss if you know what mean. I would love lose like 10 to 30 pounds before the summer so that I can wear a bathing suit. So I really want to gain some guts and try this out (me and my sister). I need your honest opinion and what you suggest I do and how do I go about it. Thank you and please comment back real soon. Thanks for your time.

I hadn't heard of this diet, and am wondering if it is any more nutritionally sound that the Master Cleanse Diet which is also known as the Lemonade Diet.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI just completed the Simply Slender Lemonade Diet. So nice because the product is pre-blended just add water, the taste was good. This is a 4 day diet/cleanse that includes healthy fruits and veggies as part of the regimen, I like that as my metabolism is not shutting down. I didn't feel so good the first day but moving into the second and third I started to feel more energized. By the forth day I had lost 5 lbs and had set a good routine for myself. Continued work outs and sensible eating have kept me on track since then and I have lost an additional 3 lbs over the last two weeks.
-- Contributed by: ChristineHi Alexis,
This cleanse is short term. It is not designed for weight loss but for cleansing. Every body is different. I can tell you that I'm on the third day of this cleanse and have not had to cut back in any area of my life. But I only walk 30 minutes, I do not run. If you want more on this I'm blogging about the experience here.
Most people don't realize how toxins acumulate in their bodies. Here is a list of a few ways we pick up these toxins:
- Eating food without considering the harm it might do
- Smoking
- Excessive drinking
- Partying late nights
- Not drinking enough water
- Ingesting unnecessary body supplements
- Eating more of junk food than healthy food
Even when we understand what these things do to our bodies, we often do them anyway for various reasons. Many people wait until something serious happens to them to make a change. The Lemonade Diet is a naturopathic way of cleansing and ridding our bodies of these toxins. Each glass of the lemonade mixture equals about 100 calories, so if you follow the diet as it is written, it is not a starvation plan but feeds your bodies the calories needed while still cleansing your system.
Many people are able to exercise while doing this cleanse. But like I said, it's an individual thing. If you have questions, I suggest you talk with your primary care giver and get his advice.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI am very interested in the toxin-elimination that this cleanse offers. And I'm not going to lie, dropping ten pounds would be an added bonus. But, I'm a big workout buff...I run at the gym every other day. Would I be able to do this on the Master Cleanse? Also, does the weight dropped on the Master Cleanse stay off? And I'm proud of my well toned legs...I don't want to do something that's going to eat my muscles down to nothing!
-- Contributed by: alexisHi Kelli,
Average weight lost is said to be about 2 pounds a day, but less maple syrup is suggested for those who are overweight. And remember--this is an average. Some people don't show any loss of weight until day 4.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladHi Kaleigh,
Congratulations on making it this far. The reason your throat burns is the cayenne pepper. The longer you let the drink mixture set, the spicier it becomes. It's recommended to make it fresh and drink it down. One person commented that they drink the pepper in water in a shot glass followed by the lemonade mixture which they can then sip and enjoy.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI just have a question! I am currently on the fast for cleansing and spiritual purposes. However, I am surprised that I am not losing weight! Not a pound! I am currently menstrating, so I wonder could that be a cause. Is something wrong?
-- Contributed by: KelliI am on my second day. i stepped on the scale from the start and weighed 154.8. This morning I was at 150.2. I'd say I feel better and the first day was the hardest. wish me luck to day ten. Have you noticed after drinking it for a while your throat kinda burns?
-- Contributed by: kaleighHi Anna,

-- Contributed by: Donna Sundbladi love this diet

Yes, along with drinking the lemonade mixture every 1 to 2 hours be sure to drink plenty of purified water.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladAm I allowed to drink water on the side or am I only allowed to drink the lemonade?
-- Contributed by: MayHi Deanna,
Most people who follow this cleansing plan find 7 to 12 days is enough to obtain full benefits. However, your body goes through adjustments and the first 2-3 days you may feel a stirring in your system as toxins circulate in your blood stream. After the third day your energy increases and you start to see the benefits. So to quit after day 4 would be to put yourself through the more unpleasant days for less benefits. Waiting until you have the time to do it sounds like a wise choice.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladIf I break the diet early (say on day 4) will I still see some banifits? Or should I wait until I can commit to a full 10 days?
-- Contributed by: DeannaHi Sharon,
One reason people do a bowel cleanse is to promote healing of bowel disease: A therapeutic enema like the salt water flush is used to help heal:
- diverticultius
- diverticulosis
- ulcerative colitis
- chron's disease
- cancer
- AIDS
The herbal laxative tea stimulates peristalsis of the colon because the lemonade drink has no fibre. The laxative helpts to remove the waste as it is being shed from the colon wall, otherwise it stays in the body, leading to tiredness and any number of problems.
With that said, I remind you that it is always good to check with your doctor because he knows your medical history and will be able to give you the direction you need.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI am on day three and had a terrible headache on the first day. The first night I did the tea. I have not done that since. I have done the salt water every morning and that starts the loose stools within a few minutes. At this point there is very little solid stool. Is it necessary to do the night tea? The last time I drank it I was up intil 10 and was awaken at 6. Since then I have gone to bed at 8 or earlier and am afraid that I will be up in the middle of the night. I have diverticuli. So, I hate to push it. What is your opinion?
-- Contributed by: Sharonhi im just wondering is there any other sweetner u ca use other than the grade b maple syrup
-- Contributed by: cyrilHi Connie,
The Lemonade Diet is really a cleansing fast. The aroma of dinner cooking can be quite a temptation. Here are a few ideas to help you through:
- Cook items you don't care for
- Ask your spouse to make dinner
- Go for a walk while the family eats (and cleans up)
- Have your spouse take the kids out for dinner
Help!!!!I am on day 3 and it is so hard cooking dinner for my family and not eating any! I will not sit at the dinner table with them, but the smells and stuff in my house is so hard to resist! I have already drank 9 glasses of the lemonade diet, it helps some, but still, I am soooooo tempted to just eat a bite!
-- Contributed by: connieHi Betty,
You can find the specifics in the Master Cleanse Diet article here at LoveToKnow Diet.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladHi Niki,
The Lemonade Diet is a cleansing diet very much like a juice fast. You don't eat anything else. The Lemonade mixture is your only source of energy and nutrients. That's why it's important to use fresh-squeezed lemon juice, purified (non-fluoridated) water, grade-B maple syrup, and cayenne pepper. Beverages are also limited, as you can see in this article. Other than the salt-water flush and laxative tea, which are part of the cleaning regime, you can drink pure water and peppermint tea.

I JUST FOUND OUT ABOUT THIS GREAT DIET THING... BUT I WANT TO KNOW IF YOU ARE ALLOWED TO EAT REGULAR FOOD. OF COURSE HEALTHY FOOD (FRUITS & VEGGIES) OR YOU SHOULD ONLY BE DRINKING THE LEMONADE? ANOTHER THING, I SHOULD MIX ALL THE INGREDIENTS THAT ARE GIVEN RIGHT?
-- Contributed by: nikiThe Sal...er Flush is used by many cleansing diets. It provides an internal bath for the body. It is designed to draw out toxins as it cleanses the entire intestinal tract. According to these cleansing diets, it does no harm and said to be a natural way to cleanse the digestive tract. I suggest you check with your health care provider before your try it.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladHi! I am getting ready to start a 10 day cleanse but I am concerned about the salt water flush. I read another website that said everything about this detox is great except for the SWF. It said that the body isn't supposed to have that much salt at one time and that is why the body rejects it usually by throwing up. If it doesn't, then it can absorb some of the salt and it can cause more harm. Is this true?
-- Contributed by: KellyHi Rachael,
The Grade B maple syrup contains significant amounts of potassium and calcium which is figured into keeping your body healthy.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI am using grade A maple syrup because grade B is not available. Is this a problem?
-- Contributed by: RachaelHi Tosha,
The Lemonade Diet is strictly a cleansing diet. Weight loss occurs, but it's not to be equated with fat loss. A good portion of the weight lost is from fluid and water retention. In fact, the book says that at least 1/2 the weight will be regained after completing the diet.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladThat's a good question, Tosha.
When you've finished the Lemonade Diet here is a way to ease into eating food again:
For Vegetarians:
Day 1 and 2:
- Drink several 8 oz. glasses of fresh orange juice. Drink slowly. You can dilute with water if desired.
Day 3:
Breakfast:
- Orange juice in the morning
Lunch:
- Raw fruit
Dinner:
- Fruit or raw vegetable salad
You are now ready to eat normally.
For Non-Vegetarians:
Day 1:
- Drink several 8 oz. glasses of fresh orange juice. Drink slowly. You can dilute with water if desired.
Day 2:
- Several 8 oz. glasses of orange juice throughout the day diluted with water if desired.
Midday:
- Homemade Vegetable Soup: (Do not eat canned soup)
Day 3:
Breakfast:
- Orange juice
Lunch:
- Vegetable soup
Dinner:
- Choose from vegetables, salads, or fruit. No meat, fish, or eggs; no bread, pastries, tea, coffee, or milk.
Day 4
Return to normal eating.
hello, i am interested in starting the lemonade diet. i was wondering how do i start eating when im finished with the cleanse, and what should i start off eating so i can help prevent myself from having stomach irritations??
-- Contributed by: toshahow much weight should someone expect to lose over the 10 days if they follow the directions perfectly?
-- Contributed by: toshaHi Cindy,
The herbal tea used on this diet is a laxative herbal tea. They do not specify a brand name but you can usually find them at your local grocery store or health food store. The FDA advises consumers to follow package directions carefully when using dieter's teas which contain senna, aloe, and other stimulant laxatives. If persistent diarrhea, abdominal cramps, or other bowel problems occur be sure to contact your doctor immediately to prevent more serious complications.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladWhat is the name of the herbal tea that you get to go with the Lemonade diet. Also I was told you have to take something because constipation sometime occurs with the diet..
-- Contributed by: CindyHi Koinz,
When following the lemonade diet it is important to drink 8 â 10 glasses of the lemonade mixture instead of water throughout the day while the herbal tea is drunk only in the morning and before bed.
The lemonade diet recipe:
- 2 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon
- 2 tablespoons of grade B Maple Syrup
- Add cayenne pepper according to your preference
- A glass of pure water

This diet is actually designed to detox the body. Weight loss is an added benefit, but if you want to maintain the weight loss you'll need to incorporate healthy eating habits and regular exercise.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladHi Merry,
The reasons they supply include the following:
- Some tap water (like in Philadelphia) has parasites
- Tap water contains chlorine which kills bacteria but is bad for you
And for more information, they also recommend the book, Natural Cures (© 2004) by Kevin Trudeau, which says "All tap water is poisonous. All tap water is loaded with chlorine and chlorine by-products. Chlorine scars your arteries and, along with hydrogenated oil and homogenized dairy products, causes heart disease. Most tap water also has fluoride, which is one of the most poisonous and disease causing agents you can put in your body. Do not drink or use tap water except for washing your floor."
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladLast year I was told about this diet by an old friend, i was always alittle chunky so i desided to go for it. The next thing i know i was 20pounds lighter!! this diet is anazing! The one down fall is that after i started to eat reg. and i ended the diet the weight came back twice as fast. This diet is great for a quick fix! its really great!
-- Contributed by: Kasiaim really interested in detoxing my body, i have no prblems with the plan other than the fact you can not use tap water or flourided water. whats the reason?
-- Contributed by: MerryHi Shubhangi,
Young Life Clinic claims you can use Agave instead of the maple syrup. However a man who studied with Stanley Burroughs, by the name of Tom Woloshyn, disagrees. So expert opinions conflict. Young Life Clinic goes on to tell dieters that if they have diabetes or hypoglycemia they should use molasses. And if a person feels weak or has a sugar imbalance they can add a scoop of Power Meal.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladHello
Can somebody please help me ? can i do this diet with out using maple syrup ? I want to loose some weight I tried to find out on the websites lemonade diet with out maple syrup but there is no satisfactory information available ? what role exactly maple syrup play in lemonade diet ?
Thanks Shubhangi
-- Contributed by: ShubhangiHi Dennis,
A cup of laxative tea should be taken once a day. Whether you want to do that before bed, or in the morning will depend on you and your schedule. It often causes cramping.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladMust I consume laxative tea? and with what frequency?
-- Contributed by: DennisHi Miranda,
When following a detox diet, people experience varying degrees of success. The weight loss that takes place is not so much loss of fat, but much of it is due to the loss of fluid and water retention. As your body begins to flush its toxins first few days are hardest. Some people only use the lemonade diet for 4-5 days, while others follow it for 2 weeks. A typical herbal detox does the following:
- Dissolves and eliminates toxins throughout the body
- Cleanses kidneys and thedigestive system
- Purifies the glands and cells
- Eliminates waste and hardened material in joints and muscles
- Relieves pressure and irritation in nerves, arteries and blood vessels

-- Contributed by: MIRANDAHi Jonathan,
This is a short term cleansing diet. Check with your doctor to see if he thinks it is safe for you.
i want to use this diet to detoxify but i am afraid of too much weight loss. i am skinny enough, but i want to do this diet. Is it safe for me?
-- Contributed by: JonathanAs an ingredient in the Lemonade Diet, cayenne pepper breaks up mucus and adds warmth by building the blood for additional energy. Herbalists say that Cayenne is both a medicinal and nutritional herb and is a high source of Vitamins A and C, has the complete B complexes. It also contains organic calcium and potassium. Herbalists also claim cayenne can rebuild tissue in the stomach and works in the intestines to aid with elimination and assimilation. The Lemonade Diet works because it has been thought out on many levels. Cayenne pepper is one of the ingredients that makes it work.
-- Contributed by: Donna Sundbladyou must follow the directions exclusively.. no honey
-- Contributed by: SArahHoney is not an ingredient of The Master Cleanse diet and the substitution is met with criticism. This diet uses a very specific formula for a reason. Honey enters the blood directly, raising the sugar content rapidly and could change the outcome. Plus the maple syrup contains significant amounts of potassium and calcium which is figured into keeping your body healthy.
-- Contributed by: Donna Sundbladhi, can i replace maple syrup with honey or any other sweetener in the master cleanse?
-- Contributed by: hanna oThere is a great deal of evidence showing that hot peppers like cayenne will boost your metabolism allowing you to burn more fat. There are other health benefits as well but for purposes of this diet, increased metabolism is the biggest benefit.
If you exclude the pepper it may affect your results. Similar effects have been seen with spicy mustard. You can read about it in Mustard and Fat Burning.
-- Contributed by: Kathleen RobertsWhat does the pepper do? could it work with out the pepper?
-- Contributed by: TammyI am not sure there have been any studies done on consuming foods while drinking the leamonade. However, I don't think adding food will make you lose weight faster because you will be adding calories.
As you gradually work back toward eating again (after your 10 day cleanse) some recommend drinking the lemonade for breakfast and raw foods the rest of the day.
The amount you drink throughout the day varies depending on your body size. You need to get a copy of the book for exact quantities.
Thanks for the questions.
-- Contributed by: Kathleen RobertsI was wondering if i drank the lemonade diet and only ate raw foods, would there be a differences in weight loss? I'm not looking to starve myself for 10 days. I was just wondering if these to combined, can i lose weight faster, lets say in one months time vs. just raw food alone?
-- Contributed by: SarahCould I continue to drink the lemonade mix for energy while cutting back and eating healthy?
-- Contributed by: Ann BurstonI was wondering how much of the mixed lemonade should you excatly drink in one day? and should it be drunk at 1, 2 or more times a day? how many lemons and syrup should you use..
-- Contributed by: a.mThe amount of weight loss will depend on the individual. However, an average weight loss is about two pounds per day.
-- Contributed by: Kathleen RobertsI was wondering how much weight does one looseon this diet?
-- Contributed by: shannanI think you will need to determine if your normal workout routine is ok for you to continue. If you feel weak or light headed, it is probably best to stop until you have completed your cleanse.
Protein powder is probably not a good idea. It depends on how closely you want to follow the guidelines. One option would be to take spirulina in a powder or tablet form. Spirulina is high protein and also has many vitamins and minerals. During a fast, it can be taken three times a day.
-- Contributed by: Kathleen RobertsMore info on lemonade diet
-- Contributed by: MelissaI was also wondering wheather it would be ok to keep a normal workout routine as well as if it would be ok to add protein powder to water to ensure there is not unfavorable breakdown of muscle.

-- Contributed by: Kimani Dardeni would like to know more about this diet
-- Contributed by: angelaKeep in mind that this is not intended as a quick weight loss method-- it's a detox. After taking the time (and sometimes, the pain) of detoxing your body, you shouldn't retox it the next day! Also, your body has taken a break from digesting foods, so you'll want to ease back into digestion gently and gradually. As Kathleen said, an abrupt move into digestion and heavy foods can shock your system and cause stomach trouble. It is best to have juice the first day or two after the cleanse, followed by a couple of days of fruits and vegetables. If possible, try to abstain from animal products until at least the fourth day post-cleanse.
-- Contributed by: Misty KaramGoing back to your regular diet immediately may cause stomach upset as well as diarrhea.
-- Contributed by: Kathleen Robertsiwould like to try this diet
-- Contributed by: brittany NelsonHi I'd like to know why it is so important to follow the guidelines for going off the 'Master Cleanse'? Why shouldn't you go back to eating normal solid foods straight away and make it a smooth transition? What can happen to you body if you don't follow the guidelines?
-- Contributed by: KatyaThat will depend on grocery prices where you live. Make a list of the products (lemons, maple syrup, purified water, cayenne pepper, peppermint tea, etc)and check them out at your favorite grocery store.
-- Contributed by: Kathleen RobertsHow much does all this cost
-- Contributed by: Ms.CBThanks for the recommendation Christina. You're right, someone with a very active lifestyle may have a hard time with the Lemonade diet as well as other fasting-type diets. They simply don't provide the calories you needs to maintain that much activity.
-- Contributed by: Kathleen RobertsI just tried the lemonade diet, and unfortunately couldn't get past the 3rd day. I'm an avid runner and it I felt too tired, naseaus, and dizzy. I've heard good things about it, but unfortunately I didn't have the energy to keep up my fitness routine and thought it would be best to stick with my low-cal diet and work out. My doctor recommended "fasting tea" to keep a healthy level of vitamins and nutrients- the brand is Yogi.
-- Contributed by: christinaIt sounds to me like you have a good game plan. One thing that struck me though, was the phrase "depressive comfort eating", and I am a bit concerned about that. Do you have your depression under control? You may want to consult your doctor about that, as well as asking him about any health issues that may prevent you from detoxing with the Lemonade Diet--or any other for that matter.
-- Contributed by: Kathleen RobertsHI, I have been looking for a healthy way to detox. In general I am a healthy eater (lots of lean protein, omega-3 foods, fruits and vegetables., whole grains, some dark chocolate once in a while.) However, recently I hit a phase of depressive comfort eating. (Lots of processed and fried foods for about 2 weeks (fast food, ice cream, soda, etc.) probably the result of a breakup..I've gained some weight as well Anyway, I'm feeling motivated again and I am planning on doing the "Lemonade" or Master Cleanse diet for 10 days (making sure at least 1200 calories by way of the lemonade are consumed each day) and then follow the guidelines for going off of it, then going back to a healthy lifestyle. I'm thinking this detox would be a good way to fight off cravings in the long run and have a fresh start. I also plan on continuing my normal exercise routine during the detox if I feel energized enough (3-5 miles of running 4-5 days a week) Do you have any precautions about this plan?
-- Contributed by: AmyThis diet might be right for you if you are looking for a jumpstart to a healthy eating plan or if you're looking to detox. If you're simply looking for a quick fix and a return to old habits, keep looking. All the weight will come back quickly if you don't change your eating habits.
