Hi Jan,
Check the ingredients. Gluten is a protein found in wheat, rye, barley and oats. A gluten-free diet eliminates all wheat, rye, barley and oat gluten from the diet. This eliminates most grain, pasta, cereal and processed foods.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI love the South Beach cereal bars, especially the Cranberry almond. I have just been diagnosed with celiac disease and need to know if they contain gluten. Thanks.

Thanks for adding your advice. Many people forget that soy is made from a bean.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladThe South Beach bars have a lot of soy in them, which is a great, filling protein source. If you don't routinely eat a lot of soy, your body may need to get used to it. Meantime, try taking some "Beano" with your bar; it will alleviate a lot of the gas!

Unfortunately, abdominal bloating following eating happens more often in females. Reasons are unclear, but bloating is usually caused changes in diet as well as:
- poor or disorganized contractions of the stomach
- poor or disorganized contractions of the upper intestine
- relaxation of the abdominal muscles
- anxiety and stress
Yes I have experiencing the same problem, love the peanut butter bars, they help to keep you feeling full, but the gas is driving me crazy.

Bloating and intestinal gas are common when dietary changes have been made. If you are eating more vegetables and beans that can be a factor. Also increasing your intake of wheat can cause gas as you switch from while refined carbohydrates.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI have tried these cereal bars. And there is a very very bad side effect and that is extreme amounts of flatulence. These bars are not very high in fiber so I do not understand what is causing this except for the sweetener used. Have you had other similar complaints?
