Hi Patti,

It works because it is low calorie and the key to losing weight is to eat less calories than you burn. Congratulations on your weight loss. Let us know how it goes.

At first, I did not believe that this soup diet would work for me, but I am over 85 lbs of my ideal weight, so I tried it... First week I lost 10 lbs second week (which I really did it for 4 days) lost 6 lbs! I am on my third week now and I can not wait until I weigh myself on Sunday... Bottom line this soup DOES WORK!! You owe it to your body!

Hi barocho,

From my understanding you can have minimal dressing.

Can I have salad dressing with this diet Sacred Diet?

Hi Purple,

If you can't handle bananas, if I were you, I wouldn't choose this diet. It is a fad diet anyway. It would be better to choose something that offers more balance in nutrition.

Hi Marsha,

Good question on the quantity of rice. It is not specified. I would suggest that you add enough for you to have some on each spoonful of soup--but still have it look like soup, not wet rice. :)

I've talked to other people who have gone as long as two weeks on this diet, but I would suggest you transition back to whole foods and a balanced diet for optimal health.

Hi Erin,

That's the smart way to do things, and it sounds like your continuing to make healthy choices. I'm happy to see portion control as part of your plan, because even eating too much of healthy foods can put weight back on.

I lost 8lbs in 7 days. I used the diet as a jump start to a new healthier life style. It's been two weeks since diet week and I have lost another 2lbs. just by eating healthier foods, reducing my sodium intake, and being careful about portion sizes. I have found that I have more energy and overall just feel better. I did a couple of things to keep the soup a little more interesting. First, when making the soup I added a whole onion not just green onion. I also steered clear of the Lipton soup (it had MSG) and went for an organic onion soup mix. I added some chili powder and cayenne to a few bowls of the soup to make it a little more like chili. I also added oregano and basil one day for a more italian style soup. When I ate salads I added a little red wine vinegar (but no oil) for a little pop of flavor. For me, it was a great way to start.

Hi Linday,

You sound like you have the momentum to see this through. Remember, this is not a balanced diet and it is not something you want to continue long term. However, adding veggie soup to your menu regularly is a great way to get those serving of vegetables.

Let me tell you that I am a soup LOVER! I would eat it everyday if I could. I have to say that I am on my first day and the soup is delicious! It smelled GREAT when I was cooking it. I will hang onto this recipe for my homemade Veg. soup! It tastes delicious too! I can't wait to post my results from the diet after I complete my 7 days!

Hi Christine,

Check with your doctor about this diet before following it again, because the nutrition it provides is very poor and because of health problems associated with following this diet, major health associations like the American Heart Association will not endorse it.

I lost 5 kg in a week on this diet, went back to normal eating with only smaller portions than usual and have kept of the 5 kg for a week. Now am going on the diet again tomorrow. A friend of mine lost 12.2kg in 1 week and has also kept it of since.

Hi Millie,

Your positive attitude is great for starting a diet. You are not alone in the fact that you need to combine a healthy diet AND exercise to lose weight. It's the way our bodies are designed. We have to burn more calories than we take in if we want to lose, and take in as many calories as we burn to maintain. Good luck!

Well I start the diet tomorrow. I am really excited to start this diet to lose a few pounds. I chose this diet because I really want to join the military, and I have been working hard on my weight but the exercising just didn't cut it enough so here I go.- p.s wish me good luck

Hi Mila,

Congratulations on your weight loss. Your body was telling you that it needed more to perform and for optimal health. You're right, this diet should not be used long-term because your body requires more and balanced nutrition. Glad to hear that is the rout you plan to take now.

I just did the Sacred Heart 7 day diet and ended it just in time for a wedding I had to attend. I ended up losing 7-8 pounds (Mind you I'm only 133 pounds) and I LOOKED GREAT! It was really hard to stick to as I found I needed carbs and meat for energy. It is definitely good if you want to drop weight fast for an event, but I would recommend that you eat healthy and exercise after so that you don't gain all the weight back! I would like to say one more thing, if you are a soup person this is the thing for you!!

Hi Sylvia,

Thanks for dropping by to share your success with us. You're a classic example for restricting calories and exercising to lose weight successfully. Great job.

Am on day four and I have lost a stone,. This diet is awesome! How I did it:

  • exercise everyday (walk a mile=20mins a day=330calories, both going and coming back home)
  • calorie count my fruit and veggies to ensure I work out what little I have eaten (but I didnt calorie count my soup
  • I used Grace soup mix (only 69p) cus I didn't see Lipton soup mix

I feel so great.

Hi Janett,

That's one way of looking at it. If you don't eat veggies or drink water, soup with a clear broth is one way to get them. So this is day one? You'll have to stop back and let us know how it goes.

I am 26 years old, am 5'3" and weigh 162 lbs. and just started the Sacred Heart Diet today. I'm going to continue this diet because I am one of those girls who never eats veggies and drinks very little water. I see this diet as simply eating healthier and getting more water in my system. If I am able to lose the weight I will take it as a plus and if I don't I know I eat my vegetables and drank my water.

Hi Bria,

That's a lot of weight. The problem is that most times when you go off a diet like this, the weight comes back on because the diet hasn't taught you how to change your eating habits. Here are a few articles with more information that should help you:

i luv this diet i have lost 17 pounds in 3 weeks.

Hi Anna,

There's nothing more disappointing that sticking to a diet without results. This is a fad diet, and I have not tried it. Perhaps some of our other readers have and will respond. While this diet might help some people cut back on calories, in the long run it isn't a viable long-term weight loss solution. However, it is a low calorie diet and if you stick with it for the seven days you should lose something. Good luck.

-- Contributed by: Donna Sundblad

i'm on day 4 and haven't lost anything even though I'm doing everything they say. I read the most people lost a few pounds after the third day. Is/Was anyone in the same situation as me? Should I continue with the diet?

Hi Lindsey,

Congratulations to you and your mother on the weight already lost. You're wise in having a plan in place for when you end your diet. Your dedication to exercise is another benefit which contributes to your energy level. Telling us it is easier than the Master Cleanse diet does put it in perspective for many of us who have followed that cleanse. Thanks for taking the time to share your success with us here at LoveToKnow Diet.

I have been doing this diet for 5 full days so far and have already lost 8 lbs. I feel great! I feel that working out along with the diet has helped keep my energy up as well. My mother is doing the diet with me, and she's lost 7 lbs so far. I do believe that if you do this diet and plan ahead to count calories, eat low-fat healthier foods when you're done, etc. that you wont gain as much back, as some people say you will gain it all back within a short time. If you're looking for a diet to help get you on track, and have the willpower (I've done the Stanley Burrough's Master Cleanser every year for no less than 7 days, this is easy compared to that..), this may be something that will help you get your mind set on keeping up with better eating habits.

Hi Krissie,

As a jump start, it can work, but nutritionally it is not recommended as a long-term weight loss plan. Good health does FEEL good. I'm excited to hear you're ready to take steps to achieve it. Good luck.

-- Contributed by: Donna Sundblad

Hi, I went on this diet with a friend around 5 years ago. I felt great and lost 9 lbs. I am starting the diet tomorrow to jump start a change in eating habit. The good feeling of radiant health is what I'm after!

Hi Jessica,

It's always good to hear from those who have tried the diet. Congratulations on your success, and thanks for taking the time for commenting here and LoveToKnow Diet.

This is the only diet that has ever worked fro me. I love it and I feel so good following this plan. I am able to enjoy everything I eat and not feel guilty for eating because the more soup I eat the more weight that I lose. I have lost 13 pounds in one week with exercise everyday!!!

-- Contributed by: Jessica

Hi Jesper,

One of the reasons you have kept your weight off is that you did not return to your old eating habits. Thanks for sharing your success with us.

-- Contributed by: Donna Sundblad

I have followed the diet, and if you go the 7 days you loose a lot, 8.5 pounds, and then eat healthy with low fat and exercise, you boost your weight loss and I have not gained back more then 1.5 pounds, due to a few unavoidable parties, so go for it. It is healthy and cleanses your system.

Hi Mike,

This diet is centered around soup, but it does allow other foods.

This is the Sacred Heart Soup Diet

-- Contributed by: Mike Joyner

You're right Han, it says, "The soup that is the basis for this diet can be eaten in any quantity at any time during the week that you are following this diet plan."

-- Contributed by: Donna Sundblad

IT SAYS EAT AS MUCH AS YOU WANT ! Not 1 bowl of soup for the WHOLE day, who'd do that to heart-diseases patients about to have a surgery ??

Hi Sapphire,

I'm glad to hear you're making strides to lose weight. To keep going in the right direction, make a plan for what you'll do when the seven days are up. The restrictive nature of this diet might get old if you tried to continue it for any length of time, so while it's giving you the jump start you need, look ahead and make a plan to make sure you don't lose momentum. Just think where you can be by the first of the year!

-- Contributed by: Donna Sundblad

I have been on this diet for 3 days now and I must say I'm impressed I'm a big girl so as of now I have lost 6 pounds. I have had a lot more energy than normal very happy about that. I have tried so many diets in the past with little results but this soup diet to me is great. I like vegetable soup anyway so I don't have a problem consuming so much of it plus it's very good. Can't wait to see what the 7th day will be on the scale. Everyone is different this diet may not be for everybody but trust me I had nothing to loose and so far I'm impressed.

-- Contributed by: sapphire911@msn.com

I think that it is simply considered unsafe because it isn't scientifically proven. It also seems a bit restrictive. To eat nothing but bananas and milk (day four) all day with a bowl of soup isn't very balanced.

The soup itself isn't "bad for you", however I think the writer is saying that a healthy diet needs to have balance. The best advice is to ask your doctor or a nutritionist to evaluate the diet based on your individual needs.

Chuck, I think your idea of oatmeal for breakfast with fruit, salad, grilled salmon and soup would be ok. If you feel good you are probably fine. Just do please, pay attention to how your body responds.

-- Contributed by: Kathleen Roberts

I don't get it. I did this diet for a week and it wasn't bad. I didn't loose 17 lbs or anything but I found different ways to spice the soup so that it didn't get old (put it in the blender to make a vegie drink, add chili powder to make vegie chili, etc.). the guy that told me about it said that on day 8 he ate whatever he wanted and then started all over again. So what is so unheathy? Folks criticized it for having too much sodium and then claimed that you loose waterweight. Isn't that a contradiction? The soup is just vegitable soup. why is it bad for you?

My Doctor told me that his wife was in weight watchers and that this soup would have 0 points. Isn't that a good thing?

What if I ate a cup of oatmeal w/rasins and almonds each morning, then fruit, grilled samon, salads, and lots of this soup each day ( i find that the soup does give me energy) would that be sustainable. Is the soup good or bad and is it low callery or fat burning in any way?
