Hi Violet,

It's always best to check with your doctor for specifics, but this is a healthy diet and should be a good choice for both of you.

Yes, my family history has cancer/heart disease but, my concern is: Is this diet good for my husband who has diabetes? He is not on insulin. I believe with a good diet plan he can get it beat. Is this a good plan? Thank you..I already do a lot of oils.

Elizabeth, I'm not sure where the writer's information came from. Possibly this is more true of the Italy and Greece of long ago. I'm sure, as with most cultures, their diet has changed a bit over the centuries. That said, I will look into it and see what I can find out. Thank you for your comment.

My husband had a cardiologist visit today & came home asking, "Do you anything know about the mediterranean diet?" His doctor recommended the diet. We have a lot to learn.

In your article, you said that Italians and Greeks eat bread but do not slather it with butter. Instead they dip it in olive oil enhanced with herbs and spices. I don't know about Greece, but I spent three weeks in Italy visiting with my daughter and her husband who lived there several years. My daughter told me that it isn't true that Italians dip their bread in olive oil. This, she said, was an American misconception regarding the Italians.

As I travelled around Italy eating at various restaurants, never once was bread served along with olive oil. Once when in Orvieto and American family eating in the same restaurant as we asked the waiter for the olive oil for their bread. We let them know that it is not really served this way.

I took a tour of Italy at another time and once again found that olive oil was not served with the bread.

Either your information is wrong or all of the restaurants that we ate at and all those that my daughter ate at over several years were wrong.
