-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI came across this site looking for a simple breakdown of what good carbs I can eat and what bad carbs I can still have now and then. Can someone give me a simple suggestion on what to eat as far as good carbs and not so good carbs. My question is "is there really any bad carbs? Ones you eat in moderation(right?) thank you..(I'm a carb lover!)

-- Contributed by: audrey blackmanThis info sounds really wise and rings true to what my Cardiologist said. He put me on the No White Diet or other diets that promote no processed white things are to be eaten, but until I read your stuff I didn't understand what carbs were and why white or processed carbs are less healthy than others. I have a long way to go to truly understand my choices, but I think you have pointed me down the right path. Thanks

Wise advice. It really comes down to portion control. Many times people think sugar free or fat free means they can eat more not realizing the hidden dangers you mention.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladAlso, be careful of baked chips, fat free items. They often add more sugar to replace the fat to maintain the flavor

Restricting bad carbs and eating a balanced diet that includes lean protein is a good way to drop those unwanted pounds.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladYou could lose weight faster by limiting all (or most) of your daily intake of carbs. Eating meats, poultry, and fish (including seafood (CRABS<etc)). I lost 18 lbs in a month.
PS> the doctor loves me.
-- Contributed by: carminoHi Rosa,
Thanks for that reminder. Salad dressing can also be high in sugar. Read the labels. When you check ingredients if sugar is in the first three avoid that dressing if you are trying to lose weight.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladBe careful with salad dressings as some are packed with alot of fat and sodium...-- Contributed by: rosa
Hi Carl,
Thanks for the tip. Adding salads to your weekend menu will help lose weight, but if the rest of the week is filled with fried, sugary foods, it probably won't be enough. However, exercise does help burn those extra calories. Brining healthy eating and exercise into the entire week will provide faster, encouraging results.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladAdriana, all you need to do to lose that weight is to have a salad or two on a weekend basis, this will gaurantee you lose 50 pounds a week. Also don't forget to exercise and burn those cals!!

I'm not sure if you're saying you need to lose 140 pounds, but if that's the case there are plenty of healthy diets to choose from. The important thing is to find a diet plan that is best for you and to incorporate exercise into your life on a regular basis. Here are some diet plans to check out. You can ask your doctor which one he things is for you:

-- Contributed by: steven tysonHi destini,
It's easy to become confused when we see things like watermelon and bananas on the "avoid" list, but these foods are high in carbohydrates and to be avoided on a low carb diet.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladHi destini,
While brown rice and whole grains provide good carbs, they are still restricted by people eating a low carb diet because they are high in carbs. There are many different versions of the low carb diets including:
- Atkins
- Neanderthin
- The Carbohydrate Addict's Lifestyle Plan
- Life Without Bread
- South Beach Diet
All of these diets restrict consumption of carbohydrates. Most low-carb diets replace carbohydrates with fats and proteins. Diets do vary in what they allow, but generally a low carb diet is higher in fat and includes moderate protein.
