Hi LaNita,
They probably spit in the cup because they aren't allowed to spit on the floor. The term "water weight" deals with water retention in the cells of your body. Retaining fluids can lead to an increase in blood pressure, swelling and such symptoms. The body maintains a healthy fluid balance using sodium, potassium and other electrolytes. That's why too much sodium throws things off and helps the body retain water resulting in weight gain.

Most likely the weight you want to lose on your stomach and thighs is not just water weight. Those areas tend to gather unwanted body fat. To get rid of unwanted body fat, you'll want to burn more calories than you're taking in. Even though the diet listed in this article deals with water weight, it is a healthy diet and should help you to take off those unwanted pounds.
