Hi Monkey,
While you may like them, peanut butter and jelly are not low or negative calorie foods. Tuna is a good source of protein though, and peanut butter can be, too, if you don't eat too much.

The focus for the "negative calorie diet" is on vegetables and fruit. However, the body uses 25-30 percent of the caloric value of any protein when digested so realistically protein could be considered negative calorie food.

The best way to start is one day at a time. It took years to put the extra weight on and it won't come off all at once, however, if you go on a restricted calorie diet and start to exercise you will lose fairly quickly on the front end of the diet. Talk to your doctor and ask what diet he suggests. Often obese people are put on a 1200 calorie diet or even lower to lose weight quickly, but your doctor will know what is best for you.

This is not a diet plan. There's no way you could eat a balanced diet by limiting your foods to those found on this list. The information found here is to help you incorporate wise choices in whatever diet plan you are following. That's what the last paragraph is talking about when it mentions a moderate approach.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI don't understand: How can the no calorie fruits be eaten without limits, when balancing a diet means portion control?
How many carbs vs protein must be absorbed in a 1500 calorie diet?
Where can I get an example of a one-week recipe meal plan? Thankyou.
-- Contributed by: GinaDonna that's great news! Thanks for sharing your success with us and helping others to see it doesn't have to be drudgery but a change in thinking. You must feel great to have lost 50 pounds!
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI have been doing this negative calorie food diet for about 6 months. I have added lean meats for dinner, and I do have light ranch dressing when I have salads.I also eat low carb pitas at 60 calories each when I decide to have a sandwich, and load it with lean meat, fat free cheese, and lots and lots of onion, tomato, etc. I have lost over 50 pounds during this time. I just recently started exercising on a regular basis because I have hit a dead spot. Interestingly, I felt great after the first couple days. I think this diet forces healthy eating. ITS GREAT! I know longer see it as a diet, but as a way of life. I have realized how bad the boxed and bagged foods make me feel. Good Luck to anyone who wants to try it!

If you eliminate empty calories such as are found in junk food) for a variety of fruits and vegetables that equal the same calories you reap more than one benefit. You take in more vitamins and minerals and enzymes that can increase your metabolic rate. This in turn burns off calories at an accelerated rate.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladJust wondering, how many calories does it take to digest food?Is it the same for all foods?
