Hi Sophie,
Sorry to hear you are not feeling well. If you really have the flu, you probably won't feel much like eating. However, I understand the desire for comfort food when you're not feeling well. It is tied to the fact that our mothers used food to help us feel better as children. In reality, if you choose healthy foods, you'll feed your body the nutrition it needs to get well. I wouldn't think of exercising until your strength returns. Your body is telling you it needs to rest.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI'm trying to lose weight. I was following a really good diet and exercise regime, but now I have the flu and I can't exercise, but I am craving some of my comfort foods. I don't want to regain weight.

If you want to add a little rice to your vegetable soup that would be fine, but remember that digesting liquids takes less energy, allowing the body more strength for combating the illness so you don't want to add too much rice to your soup.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladIt may be necessary to make your own vegetable broth because most store bought ones contain some meat product in them. Any suggestions as to whether all types of rice are ok when recovering?
-- Contributed by: Barbara SearsYou'll want to consume fluids, so vegetable broths and fruit juices should be ideal. Unsweetened applesauce is good too. You can follow the advice in this article without including any animal products and you will start feeling better soon.
Get some rest, and I wish you a speedy recovery.
