Hi Maria,
No, just because you don't feel anything is wrong does not mean everything is okay. Bulimia is a disorder that carries with it long-term negative effects. It's bad enough that regular vomiting can eat the enamel off your teeth, but without treatment you could face other health problems like:
- Chronic fatigue
- Low blood pressure
- An irregular heartbeat
- Dehydration
- Anemia
- Gum disease
- Fertility problems
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Other mental health disorders
The problem is that because this is a disorder, you may see things through a distorted perception that everything is okay. It's best to seek help to take steps to make some healthy changes.

-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI am bulimic. I don't see any effects on my body, though I have lost 11 pounds. If I don't feel like it's hurting me does that mean its not?
-- Contributed by: mariaHi Steph,
So glad to hear you are getting help. You are so right about people not realizing what they are doing to their bodies. Perhaps someone will read your post and get the help they need. THANK YOU so much for sharing your story.

-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI am bulimic, currently getting help from doctors and psychiatrists. It's not easy to break the habit but very important for your health. I recently ended up in hospital because my potassium was very low, another week of purging etc., and I would have been dead as lack of potassium in my body would have made my heart stop. These are the things you don't realise you are doing to yourself. Although it's been very difficult to get passed this illness and still going through it, it is important to receive help because you don't know the damage you are doing to your own body, but you can get through it!!!!!
