Hi Robyne,
Limiting high glycemic foods may help. Perhaps try a diabetic diet. Increased insulin levels causes the body to store carbohydrates as fat. To make matters worse, they also tell it not to release any stored fat.

-- Contributed by: Donna Sundbladmy husband is diagnosed with NASH. his cholesteral level is around 70. he has fatty nodules all over his body so i suspect that's how his body gets rid of fat. we have tried a very low fat diet to get ensymes down with some luck but it fluctuates up and down over the course of years. his doctors just don't seem to have a lot of advice to help him. i'm stymied on what to do to help his liver get better. mayybe you have some advice. thanks! robyne

One thing you'll want to do is stay in contact with your family doctor and follow his recommendations. Also, try implementing the dietary recommendations found in this article:
- High fiber
- Low calories
- Low saturated fat
- Total fat of no more than 30 percent of total calories.
My son-in-law dropped his cholesterol by 100 in one year by changing his diet and losing some weight. Diet makes a big difference.

-- Contributed by: anithaHi Christine,
The first step is to talk to your doctor about your son's diet. Some people are naturally prone to higher cholesterol levels. Now is the best time to touch base with your doctor and get the guidance your son needs for his particular needs.

-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladHi,
I was a heavy drunker who tested positive for fatty liver. I left drinking completely, lost 21 kg doing exercise regularly. Guess what! It's gone! Very hard to believe because it's very hard to leave drinks. That's the only way out without medicine.

You can include foods considered moderate on the Glycemic Index as well. Here's another article to give you more information:
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladDoes anyone have any other advice on foods to eat.....it seems more than a little restricted for someone who is having a real problem finding foods to eat.
-- Contributed by: AudraHi Zainab,
Cutting sugar and refined sugar from your diet may be the key to helping you lose that extra weight. There are a number of diets on the market that suggest eliminating these products for better health. Check out these articles for more information:
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI am a 36 year old woman, overweight, active and have high cholesterol. I am overweight even though I walk about 1 hr everyday, and do weight training and some cardio 3 times per week and yoga 1x per week. I get nausea on occasion when I drink alcohol and my doctor has suggested it may be a symptom of fatty liver disease. From your article, it sounds as if I should cut refined sugar and flour from my daily diet.
-- Contributed by: Zainab WHi Matilda,
I recommend your husband visit another doctor for a second opinion to rule out other causes for his nausea. Other than that, he should change his diet as listed in this article. You can't make him exercise, but that will also help. His diet should be high in fiber, low in calories and saturated fat.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladHi - I hope you can help me. My husband is 52 and has fatty liver but for the past year is getting strong nausea every day. Sometimes diet does make a slight difference. He doesn't have diabetes. He had a blood test recently and another 1 year ago. Pardon the spelling but his triglycerides, GGT and alkaline phosporants are all really high. His doctors don't seem to do much for him and I have trouble getting him to be strict about his diet. He is overweight and doesn't exercise enough. What can he/we do? Thanks.

It is best to follow the instructions and recommendations of your doctor. It won't hurt to follow the guidelines here in this article. They are pretty clear:
- High in fiber
- Low in calories
- Low in saturated fat
- Total fat of no more than 30 percent of total calories.
Your son may not like the change, but his health and even his life could depend on it.

With all of your health concerns, I suggest you ask your doctor for his recommendations regarding your diet. He may have you visit a registered dietician who is specially trained to address your needs.

With your complex medical history I'd suggest you ask your health care professional or dietician for their recommendation for you personally. Here are a few items you can talk over with them to see if they might help you to reach your weight loss goals.
