Hi Madison,
There are different kinds of carbs. Complex carbs are the ones you want to include in your diet. They take longer to digest and help keep blood sugar levels normal. Simple carbs turn to sugar and wreak havoc on blood sugar levels. It's best to stay in touch with your doctor to help you understand how insulin works and why you should limit your carb intake. Your doctor knows your personal history and will be able to guide you in learning to eat for your body and condition.

-- Contributed by: madisonHi dp,
You'd have to talk to the people who created this diet. It's my guess that it is an attempt to allow dessert or some other treat for those following this eating plan. These portions are small and that in itself is a change for most people
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladHow come that Fats Group has junk food? Why not have a teaspoon or two of Olive, Safflower, Avocado, or Walnut Oil??? Why not some healthy fats? Olive oil on your broccoli? No wonder people are fat. This makes them think they cant do with out junk food.
-- Contributed by: dpHi Martha,
If you want to start counting carbohydrates it's best to work with your husband's dietitian or health care provider to learn to do it properly for his specific needs. Carbohydrate counting is a useful tool when planning meals, especially if your husband is on medication or insulin to control his diabetes. If he learns to eat the same amount of carbohydrates at each meal or snack it will keep his blood sugar from spiking or dropping too low throughout the day. You're on the right track, so talk with your doctor about how many carbohydrates to include in each meal or snack.

-- Contributed by: martha brownHi Dorothy,
One thing you can look into is medical nutrition therapy, with is one of the main treatment approaches for type 2 diabetes. MNT adjusts dietary intake to minimize dramatic highs and lows in blood glucose levels. Counting carbs can also be a useful tool to help control diabetes. Since finances are an issue, you might want to purchase a copy of ADA Guide To Medical Nutrition Therapy For Diabetes from the American Diabetes Association for $19.95. It's a comprehensive book that offers a research-based approach to clinical nutrition therapy for people with diabetes.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in June of 2002. I have been trying to lose weight since then, but am having the hardest time. I am always hungry and don't know what to eat. I don't have insurance so I cant go to a nutritionist like I know I need to. I know I need help. I feel like if I don't get help losing this weight, it's going to kill me. I am 5'9, 260 lbs. I need a diet that is specific, exactly what to eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I am really having a hard time. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. I don't have a lot of money as I have just started back to work after being on disability for a year. ~ Dottie

Are you speaking of help with your diet? Many people feel the same way. Learning to get eating under control can be a challenge. If you are diabetic it's best to check with your doctor and ask for his advice.
