Hi Ksimon,
The apple cider vinegar diet is based on the idea that consuming a few teaspoons of apple cider vinegar prior to meals will curb the appetite and reduce cravings. I can tell you that it worked for my sister.
As for how many calories you should eat to lose weight, that depends on various factors including how tall you are. Check with your doctor and he'll be able to steer you in the right direction. The bottom line is, you'll want to burn more calories than you take in. We have a good deal of information here at LoveToKnow Diet to help you. Here are a few more links to get you started. I have been overweight all my life. At the age of 30 I am sure I weigh more than 325 lbs. I need to lose weight now before my health starts deteriorating. How does the apple cider vinegar diet work?
In addition what should be my caloric intake be to lose roughly 2-3 lbs per week?

For your size and weight if you don't exercise your body will burn about 1632 calories a day. If you add exercise and or cut your calories to below that you should lose.

Weight loss during pregnancy is touchy. If you have 200 pounds to lose, I'd suggest talking to your doctor or a nutritionist to design a healthy eating plan especially to meet your individual needs because you need enough calories to ensure your health as well as the healthy development of your baby.
I did remove your comment per your request.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladHi Crissie,
You are just a little taller than I am, and I understand where you are coming from. I've tried various diet plans and am back to counting calories and as of today am down to 133. I'm excited to be heading in the right direction, but am small boned and have a ways to go.
As my weight kept going up, I asked the doctor if it could be my thyroidâI wanted to be able to blame my weight gain on something other than my eating! I hoped he'd say, "Yep, it's your thyroid messing with your metabolism." But he didn't. Our metabolism helps our bodies to convert calories from food into energy. Metabolism is not the only thing that affects our weight, but also the balance of calories consumed versus the calories burned. That's why I went back to calorie counting. It helps me to realize how much I'm really eating. If you eat more calories than your body needs â you gain weight. Shorter people don't need as many calories as taller people. If you take in fewer calories than you need, or burn more than you take in, you will lose weight.
However, if you've starved yourself trying to lose weight this can slow your basal metabolic rate as it goes into survival mode. It thinks you are starving so burns calories slower trying to save calories as body fat for when you'll need them. Your basal metabolic rate is the number of calories your body needs to sustain vital functions like:
- digestion
- breathing
- blood circulation
- adjustment of hormone levels
- cell growth and repair
These activities should burn about 66-75 percent of your daily calories. The digestion process will use up approximately another 10 percent of your daily calories as your body works to digest and absorb the food you eat. Some foods are considered negative or zero calorie foods because your body burns more calories trying to digest them than are actually in the food. Lastly is exercise. This makes such a difference in health and weight loss. Our physical activity is what burns the rest of the calories we take in. So whatever you eat over and beyond this will be stored as body fat.
Another thing that can help is to have an accountability partner or support group. You can visit me at my blog if you're looking for more support.

It is always best to check with your doctor to see if there is a health condition contributing to unexplained weight gain. Here are a couple of articles to give you more information.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI need your help. I'm a lady with the age of 28 and my weight was 121 lbs 9 months ago and now it is 135. I started to count the calories of what I eat from 2 months ago and I donât eat more than 1000 calories per day. But unfortunately I lost only 3 pounds in these months. My height is 5.3 and I know that my BMR is 1399. This information and counting the calories didnât help me to loose weight. Please advice me in this regard.

Congratulations on losing 70 pounds! You are right; eating 700 calories a day is not healthy for you. What you need to do is find the right amount of calories to maintain your current weight. It takes 12-18 "calories" per pound per day to maintain your weight. On average it takes around 100 calories to maintain each 7 pounds. With this in mind realize that it takes about 1000 calories to maintain each 70 pounds. At your current weight you should be consuming between 1400 and 1500 calories daily without guilt. You may want to talk to your doctor to help you get on track with a healthy diet.
-- Contributed by: Donna Sundbladi'm looking for advice. I was overweight for years before i decided to change my lifestyle. i basically starved myself and worked out about 4 times a day just to lose the extra weight. i am now 15 years old and have lost about 70 pounds in a year. i went from 188 lbs. to 118 lbs. i'm eating more than i was, but i'm still counting calories and i don't know why. to this day, i won't allow myself to eat over 700 calories a day. i know that this probably isn't healthy for me, but i just can't eat more than 700 calories without feeling guilty. i keep feeling that if i eat more, then i will gain all the weight back. what do i do?

Thanks for sharing your success with us as it will inspire others. Counting calories not only teaches dieters to cut calories but also to eat enough calories. Often when people get fed up with being overweight they tend to starve themselves hoping to lose weight quickly. Unfortunately, this end up slowing their metabolism which works against them.
Keep up the good work. Your health is worth it.
-- Contributed by: Donna Sundbladi know this works, i lost 45 pounds in a year, eating what i like, never being hungry. mostly i combined a few tips and it work great. eating no more than 20 grams of fat per day, and try to eat 30 or more grams of fiber in a day, change all my breads, pastas, and rice to whole grains. dr took me off my cholesterol medicine and off my acid reflux medicine, i dont need it no more!!
