Hi Kathleen,

There are a number of factors to consider. The bottom line is that if you want to lose weight, you'll have to burn more calories than you take in. Take a close look at what you're eating. Often, people overeat low-fat foods thinking they are low-calorie which is not the case many times. Double check how much you're really taking in.

Since you are exercising regularly, I would say start by monitoring your calories for a week just to become aware of what you are actually eating. If you see that you should cut calories that is most likely the answer. If not, you may have to monitor your exercise more closely to see if you are getting your heart rate up enough to effectively burn the calories.

Count your calories for a week and let us know what you learn. That's the best starting point.

I am 46 yr old 5'5 weigh 174lbs. I am very athletic excersie 4-5 days a week including strength training. My legs and arms are muscular. I am having a hard time losing weight. How much should I weigh? I have a pot belly that is difficult to lose. Should I do more cardio? (30min a day)or lose more weight by changing my diet? At this time I am eating low fat.

Hi Shea,

According to your height of 5'0" according to current standards your ideal healthy weight is 114 pounds and your recommended weight range is between 102 and 127 pounds. Remember that these are "recommended weights", but you should talk with your doctor about what weight is best for you.

What are some examples of low-fat diet or fat diet? Can yoy please give me the food varieties. What would happen if one's diet is found to be below the healthy mark of fats in the body?

Also, please give examples of balance food groups with their varieties; like fats, proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals.
