Hi Bren,
I can relate. One thing you can do is share your meals out with your husband. This will help cut the carbs. In reality cooking for diabetics isn't as labor intensive as we think it is. It is just different, so on the front end while we learn how to do it, it may seem like it's too much fuss. Learn to use the food exchangesystem. Have you tried this?
You can find a few [[Diabetic Diet Menus|menu ideas} in this article. Let me know if you have any questions.

The WW points take into all kinds of things into consideration including fiber, fat and calories so you can't just convert how many calories equals how many points. You'd need to become a WW member to learn how many points is right for you.

-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladHi... Well the doctor has just put me on a 1400 calorie diet. I am 5'2 and I weight 240 pounds. If I were to calculate it into points how many points will that be?

-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI have just been diagnosed as Type 1. I am 5'5" and 205. I work from home so I am picking at food all day. What is a good way to stop this habit. They have not yet put me on meds they are working on which one to put me on.
-- Contributed by: TINAHi JRose,
Thanks for taking the time to share your insights here at LoveToKnow Diet. Did you experience success with this or know of it first hand?
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladUnfortunately many Type 2 diabetics who follow a diabetic diet, even religiously, do not lose weight. They erroneously blame it on the insulin or oral med (there is one oral med however that may be problemic) but the main problem is tha mount of carbohydrates, 200 per day for a female and for a male slightly higher. No wonder they never are able to decrease their meds or get blood sugar under control much less lose wieght. There are entirely too many carbohydrates on this diet and it is not uncommon for people to comment they are eating more bread and starches than they did before. Try South Beach, even if you are not very obese, do the phase 2 or phase 3 maintenance. For those who are obese within a few weeks you have lost several pounds and your blood sugar is within normal limits and maybe even you will begin producing your own insulin again. Try it if you don't beleive me;)

I can really presume to prescribe your husband's diet, with his unique set of cir...stances. It will be best to talk this over with your doctor. However, if I were you, I'd stick to the diabetic diet as closely as possible. It's a healthy choice and you know it is safe for your husband.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladMy husband had been border line diabetic until he became depressed and is now taking a medication that raises his blood sugar levels and therefore is on dietetic medication. How strict does he have to follow a diabetic diet?
-- Contributed by: BarbaraHi Happy,
Having diabetes does not mean you have to give up alcohol, so long as alcohol consumption is in moderation. This equates to having 1 or less alcoholic beverage each day if you are a woman and 2 or less alcoholic beverages each day if you are a man.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladHello I was just diagnosed with prediabetes which I can turn around by changing my diet. However, I am young and go out with friends have a few cocktails. What alcoholic drinks can I consume?

Hello
I was just told that I have diabetes on the third of April and on the fifth is my first day of treatment insulin. What I wanted to know is do you have recipes that I can get for now until I can learn a little more about this disease?
-- Contributed by: janice jonesHi Romeo,
High fiber foods are recommended for those with type 2 diabetes, but remember not to overeat, because being overweight contributes to the health risk. I'd suggest working with your doctor and a dietician to help develop a healthy lifestyle plan for you to follow. Losing weight can help control blood glucose. Try eating regularly throughout the day and include:
- Foods rich in fiber
- vegetables with each meal.
- Foods lower in fat
is it true that oatmeal have more carbohydrates? can a type 2 diabetic patient consume plenty of oatmeal?
-- Contributed by: romeo c. lomugdangHi Lynette,
Thanks for visiting LoveToKnow Diet. Is there something more you would love to know?
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladFor nana to read over. There are some ideas here as well. I will keep looking.
-- Contributed by: lynette benjaminIf a person is prediabetic is this good choice for breakfast: I have about a 1/2 cup of oatmeal w/a little bit of a variety of nuts & berries sprinkled on top & add 1/2 C of milk & 1/4 of a banana. Is this enough protein for breakfast? (no sugar added to anything)
If I am to drink fruit juice how much can I drink at once? I usually drink 1 c w/one of my meals. Is it better to drink it at snack?
Is it ok to have egg white 5 days a week? I usually eat just the white part of the boiled egg w/a piece of whole wheat tosat.
