I tried Atkins for my wedding, to look decent in a suit. It worked great, but my wife was concerned as I LOST LOTS OF FAT! Now I'm needeng to get back on, but my book has been absconded. Looking online for induction phase stuff, got about 50 lbs I need to shed.

Hi Donna,

Alcohol is not allowed during the induction phase. In fact, it should not be re-introduced into your diet until you've lost weight and enter the maintenance phase. Then the best products to drink when imbibing are hard alcoholic beverages like scotch or rye or vodka. (Avoid rum because it is made from sugar cane).

Hi Dena,

It's hard to say what the problem is. Are you following a specific diet plan? If so, I would look for another...perhaps even a low calorie plan instead of a low carb plan. If you're not following a plan, you may be eating more carbs that you need to lose weight. It could be a number of factors.

My name is Denise and I've been eating low carb foods since Jan. 2, 2009 and haven't lost any weight. What am I doing wrong?

Hi Lingie,

It takes about 48-72 hours for your body to use up the glycogen so you may not see weight loss right away.

Hi Sherry,

It is not on the acceptable foods list, so if you are going to strictly follow the induction phase, I don't think so.

Hi Barbara,

Why do you need to stay on phase 1? If you need further menu ideas, look at the allowed foods and make up a menu to incorporate them. That way you'll have foods that satisfy and stay within the guidelines.

I feel like I am gaining weight. I have been on the Atkins for 2 days now. Could there be something I am not doing right? How soon should I expect signs of weight loss?

My question is? Can you eat one of the breakfast bars that is3 carbs on the induction phase as long as you do not go over 20 carbs? Please addvise

I start the induction tomorrow. I love soup in the wintertime. Does anyone have any good induction-friendly soups? I'm already planning on broccoli cheese, but would like to have a variety.

Hi Mandi,

If you can make it through day three, it usually gets "easier" but you'll always have those times of testing.

Try to look forward to the results you are working toward.

Hi Allison,

Thanks so much for offering your suggestion for our LoveToKnow Diet readers who prefer a less "pepper" pepper. Appreciate it!

I make this recipe all the time. My family LOVES it. But, if you want a less "pepper" pepper, try it with Anahiem peppers. You can cut it into fours and it doubles the recipe too.

June, I just checked again. The modern-day Atkins allows many veggies on Induction: mushrooms, peppers, artichoke, snow peas, cauliflower, squash, cabbage, tomatoes, and more. The current carb recommendation is 15-20 grams daily and that should come from vegetables.

June,

You could be talking about the original version-- Atkins 72. In that diet, induction was much stricter.
