Hi Carolyn,
Now's the time to make a change for your health. Has your doctor given you a specific diet to follow? Exercise can help, too. Even if you can only walk a half a block to start...it's a start.

-- Contributed by: CarolynOh Arleen, that IS so disappointing. All that and then the scale hits you with a gain! Sometimes, when we lose fat, it is replaced by water. When that happens, we'll weigh a little heavier, even though we've actually lost weight. This is one reason I've started measuring myself as well as weighing. On my most recent diet, I had only lost three and a half pounds but 18 inches. The 18 inches helped to keep me going!

It's always good to talk to your dietician or family health care provider regarding specifics since they know the particulars. However, in general the rule of thumb is to cut down on red meat. Include it on the menu once a week, and make leaner choices.

With so many health issues, I'd recommend the diet your doctor suggestions. Your health is nothing to play with, talk with your doctor about this and see what he says.
-- Contributed by: Donna Sundbladwhat diet would you suggest to a person with the following problems, chron's, high blood pressure, diabetic, cardiac problems, liver problems, GERD, thyroid problems (low), osteo arthrits, edema.

Thank you for the suggestion. I've added the link.
-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladIt would be nice if you would put the name of the AHA booklet in the implementation section. There are several but one of AHA booklets I think the name of it is AHA, Healthy Diet or something like that. Just giving the home web page without the title of the book makes it difficult since they also deal with booklets with HBP, High Cholesterol, etc.
