Hi Ricky,

You can lose weight with just diet, but it is a very slow process. You may want to get an exercise ball which would allow you to exercise without walking. You can even use it as a chair while at your computer.

As for the Jenny Craig diet. It is a three-level food-mind-body plan to help people lose weight and keep it off.

The first level teaches clients how to eat the foods they want -- in small, frequent portions.

Level two teaches clients how to increase their energy levels via simple activity.

And level three teaches clients how to build more balance into their lives in order to maintain weight loss and healthy diet.

Check their website for cost.

I cant really walk much more than two long city blocks. I stay home all day in my apt in bed or on the computer as I work part time online. I can't exercise much due to GOUT. Can I loose weight only via diet? I have tried it on my own but gain it back. How is Jenny Craig really different? What is the cost of food delivered direct plus fees?

Hi Kathy,

I'm not sure exactly what help you're looking for, but here are a few quick tips that can help you on your way to low-fat eating.

  • Eliminate or cut back on animal products
  • Saute in broth rather than oil or butter
  • When eating meat, cut away all visible fat and prepare by baking, broiling or roasting
  • Limit your consumption of butter (or margarine or olive oil).
  • Check labels for fat content. Low fat products are 3 grams or less of fat per serving

Add plenty of whole foods, fresh fruits and vegetables to your diet too and you're off to a good start.

need help on low fat diet

Hi Mel,

Knowing you need help and wanting to do something about your weight is a first step. Some people can eat all day and never gain a pound, and others have to be accountable for what they eat and how much. You've reached the point where you know you should do something about your weight and a great place to start is to become more aware of what you are eating and how much. The 1700 Calorie Low Fat Diet is a good example of this. A consistent exercise routine is also important. Before you begin, it's always a good idea to check with your doctor for his input.

Do some research on diet plans to come up with the one that works for you. Check with your health care provider for recommendations. If he gives you the go ahead, along with following a diet plan you'll want to add exercise to your daily routine. A sensible goal that has been proven to work calls for exercising 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week.

If you find it difficult to come up with a healthy meal plan, you can always choose a diet that tells you exactly what to eat or even provides your meals for a price, like Jenny Craig. To lose weight, the key is to burn more calories than you take in.

The reasons many diets fail for people is that they choose a routine that is too difficult for them to follow for the length of time necessary to lose their unwanted weight. To avoid this pitfall it's best if you look over the diet plans listed on the LoveToKnow Diet site and even talk with your doctor to come up with a plan you can realistically incorporate into your daily life as your new routine. To successfully lose weight and keep it off, you'll want to be sure to figure exercise into your plan.

Wanting to lose weight to better your health is a great start. The next thing you have to do is make a plan to follow. You may want to ask your doctor for his recommendation. The bottom line is that food is fuel for the body. If you eat more calories than you burn, the extra calories will turn into unwanted fat. On the other hand, you don't want to eat too few calories, because your body will think it is starving and your metabolism will slow down so it doesn't burn calories as quickly. Many diets recommend women eat between 1,000-1,200 calories a day and exercise for at least 20-30 minutes a day. Walking is a good choice. You don't need special equipment and it gets the heart pumping.
