Hi Gary,
There's always expert advice on both sides of diet issues. You can see all kinds of testimonials and even scientists who support low carb to fight cancer. The thing I recommend, though, is that you talk to your doctor to see what he/she says.
I'm actually on a low carb plan for the first time in my life called the Carbohydrate Addict's Diet. It's working. I'm in week three. You can stay up-to-date on how it's going on the Diet Forum.

-- Contributed by: KPEAK@triad.rr.comHi Rose Anna,
How to gain the will power...now that's a good question. I think it is one of those things that's different for each person. Some people become motivated when they have a health scare, others are inspired by a "higher power" to take care of their bodies, others are inspired by testimonials of others who now experience better health because they've made changes.
One thing that has helped me in the past is to write down what I eat and how I feel. Seeing it in black and white can help me stay motivated. Not only that, but writing it down helps me also see how much and what I'm eating.

-- Contributed by: Donna SundbladI just found this site looking for something else and ran into this. I need help. I am a 59 yr old type 2 diabetic and having the time of my life trying to control my sugar level. It goes up high and then it will fall down to under 200. This has been a nightmare for me. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can gain will power to get this diabetes under control?
-- Contributed by: ROSE ANNAHi Lisa,
Counting calories takes work on the outset unless you buy pre-packaged foods with the calories listed on the package. However, after a couple of weeks you'll start to know the calorie counts for foods you eat regularly which makes it easier. Dinner is usually the meal that requires looking up the most new foods to add to your diet. You'll need to have a food scale and access to the web or a book with calorie counts listed for various foods.
Let me know if you have further questions.
