The Weight Loss Cure They Don't Want You to Know About

It's sad to say, but there are people out there ready to prey on the overweight person's desire to lose weight. TV infomercials bombard us with promises and cleverly crafted words that tell us all we need is their product or book. This holds true for Kevin Trudeau's book that promises what we all want: The Weight Loss Cure.

Though his book is said to contain a "revolutionary plan discovered by a prominent physician Dr. A.T.W. Simones," when people purchase his book they find it lacking in information. Not only that, but the diet is expensive to follow. Plus, the book does not provide the reader with the miracle formula. Instead they are told to log onto his website. Once there visitors are asked to pay a monthly charge to access the information they thought they'd get in the book.

How the Plan is Supposed to Work

The premise behind Trudeau's book is that if a person takes the recommended herbs and follows the instructions, excess weight will drop off without exercise and without going hungry. In fact, they promise that body fat will burn even while a person sleeps.

The cure for obesity laid out in this book goes through 3 phases:

Phase 1

Dieters follow Phase 1 for 30 days. It is comprised by a series 60 things dieters are to do or not do. Foods eaten during this phase must be 100 per cent organic. Along with these foods there are 9 or more pills to take each day. Of course, these items are available through websites recommended by the author. This on top of going to a doctor for a colon cleansing every other day becomes expensive. But wait! There's more.

Phase 2

For those who stick with phase 1, phase 2 lasts another 45 days. For this part of the regime, dieters must get an injection of hCG everyday while continuing to follow the things they did for Phase I. Since hCG is not approved yet by the FDA finding a doctor to administer injections will be a challenge and add even more expense to your weight loss quest. Oh but wait! You can order it online for more money and give yourself the injections!

Phase 3

Phase 3 mirrors phase 2 but eliminates the hCG injections.

The Cost of Maintenance

A key to a successful diet is one that offers a maintenance plan to keep weight off. Here are a few tips offered by the weight loss cure plan to help keep your weight off. After all it is supposed to be a cure:

  • Don't ever eat at a fast food restaurant again
  • Don't ever eat anything not 100 per cent organic
  • Subscribe to the author's newsletter for only $9.95 per month

If you do eat at fast food restaurants or foods that are not 100 per cent organic, the book warns that you'll gain back your weight. So this is the cure! If you have problems with this, visit the author's website and order that newsletter for $9.95 a month. Think about it, that's more than $100 per year to get the cure the book promises.

What is hCG

Since hCG plays an important role in the weight loss "cure" it helps to take a look at what it is--a peptide hormone produced in pregnancy and by some tumors. The author's premise is that research shows that a combination of hCG and a healthy low calorie diet and moderate exercise helps with the burning of stored body fat.

The Oral hCG Research Clinic states, "hCG has not been demonstrated to be effective adjunctive therapy in the treatment of obesity. There is no substantial evidence that it increases weight loss beyond that resulting from caloric restriction, that it causes a more attractive or 'normal' distribution of fat, or that it decreases the hunger and discomfort associated with calorie-restricted diets." This stands as a direct contradiction to what Trudeau's book and methods promote. Perhaps it would be wiser to stick with the caloric restriction and moderate exercise.

Weight Loss and You

Don't give up in your quest for reaching a healthy weight. But don't be foolish and follow every diet fad or scam that comes along. All this does is discourage and send us spiraling with feelings of failure. Instead, note the things that successful diets have in common: A healthy low calorie diet and moderate exercise. This is the best place to start and then to maintain, and it's a lot less expensive than the elusive cure promised by Trudeau's book.
