Supermarket Diet
From LoveToKnow Diet
The Good Housekeeping book, “The Supermarket Diet” is actually the first diet book published by this esteemed magazine. “Shop to you drop….pounds!” is the motto behind this popular weight loss plan.
What is the Supermarket Diet?
The Supermarket Diet is based on foods most people find in their supermarkets. With an emphasis on fresh and healthy food, the recipes are easy to prepare and the foods aren’t what one would consider exotic or expensive. Since all of the recipes have been prepared and tested three times by the Good Houskeeping staff, it’s a given they taste great.
In addition to easy to find foods and simple recipes, the Supermarket Diet encourages an exercise program. As we all know, it’s one thing to diet, but to reap maximum effects, one must exercise as well.
The First Two Weeks
Like many other popular diet plans, the first two weeks of the Supermarket Diet are the most strict, but there are still plenty of good options. Even though only 1,200 calories are allowable on a daily basis, there are delicious foods to be had. Breakfast recipes include cereal with fruit, energy bars, cinnamon apple peanut butter toast, smoothies, and an egg burrito. Dieters are also allowed fat free milk and diet beverages.
Lunches are equally fulfilling. Some lunch menus include a chicken wrap, southwestern tuna sandwich, and a vegetable cheeseburger. This is just a small sampling however, while the Supermarket diet in its entirety offers plenty of variety.
Dinner options include salad, penne rigate, lentil soup, and vegetarian pizza. Recipes are so simple and delicious, even those members of your family who aren’t dieting will enjoy each meal. Eating the same foods together makes it much easier to stick to a diet.
Those who follow the two week plan and exercise as recommended can lose about five pounds by the time period is over.
1,500 Calories Each Day
Once you’re into your third week, the diet is easier. You’re now able to consume 1,500 calories on a daily basis. While this may seem too confining to some, be assured that delicious options are available for each meal. In fact, the meals inside the Supermarket Diet plan are so satisfying, it doesn’t even seem like a diet.
After the initial two weeks are over, dieters can plan their own menus using the recipes in the book, as long as they don’t consume more than 1,500 calories each day. Meal options include:
- Curried Chicken and Mango Salad
- Filet Mignon with Tomatoes and Roquefort
- Pad-Thai
- Pork Steak with Plum Glaze
They all sound delicious, don’t they? They’re all made with affordable foods found in your supermarket, and they’re all easy to make.
Conclusion
Those who follow the Supermarket Diet plan can be assured they are losing weight in the correct manner. Weight loss is slow and steady. Like Weight Watchers, one can eat enjoyable foods, those that some consider “fattening,” yet still lose weight. Don’t forget to visit your doctor first though! Even though this plan is proven to be safe and healthy, it’s always a good idea to check with your physician before embarking upon any diet or exercise plan.
The Supermarket Diet is a safe and affordable alternative to many popular diet plans. You won’t have to buy expensive foods made only by the diet company or omit entire food groups. Best of all, it’s a plan the whole family can appreciate…and it has the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval!
