Natural Weight Loss Supplements

From LoveToKnow Diet

Natural weight loss supplements are a beacon of hope to some, and a suspicious scam to others. So what exactly is up with these new “natural” supplements that closely resemble their damaging weight loss pill cousin?

The Truth About Natural Weight Loss Supplements

It seems these days that anything preceded by the word “natural” is widely accepted and embraced as something safe and healthy. We are a society riding the trend of organic food, natural skincare products, and herbal tablet ingestion. Surely if it is known as “natural”, then it is going to be a safe alternative to the famously risky versions previously on the market, right?

The answer is a firm maybe. While you can’t automatically trust a lot of the products pitched to you at health stores, a growing number of products have been proven effective in weight loss. While nothing is going to ever full-out replace the positive results found in regular diet and exercise, these natural weight loss supplements can help give you a boost by curbing cravings and upping your metabolism.

Protein Gets an A+

One natural weight loss supplement that has been proven to work is products including protein. Available in both pill and powder form, protein can reduce your hunger, which in turn helps you consume less calories. It also help keep muscle as you lose, and may even cause you to bulk up a bit if you weight train while exercising.

Even though it is not recommended, those who refused to exercise during a recent study still lost weight when on a high-protein diet or while taking a protein supplement. These supplements are available from natural foods stores and on a variety of websites.

If you want to go even more natural, opt out of the whey protein shakes and go for soy protein instead. This is easier to digest and can give you the weight loss boost you need without upsetting your stomach.

Using Ephedra with Caution

The natural herb ephedra has caused a fair bit of controversy. In 2000, it was linked to over 40 cases of stroke and seizure, along with several other major health complications. It works by increasing your metabolism and gives your body a burst of energy, which is why it is often fused with caffeine to give you optimal results.

Despite the media outcry, newer studies have shown ephedra to be safe for healthy people in moderation, and as long as recommended dosages are followed, ephedra can be a great weight loss tool. Many of those struggling with obesity, who have been studied, could eat whatever they wanted, exercise a moderate amount and still lose weight while taking ephedra.

If you choose this as your natural weight loss supplement, it is important you speak to a doctor to find out if this specific option is safe and right for your specific body.

Green Tea Tradition

Green tea is one of the oldest known natural weight loss supplements, and people have been using it for generations to both lose weight and stay healthy. It works by stimulating your body’s motivation to burn more fat, and works with caffeine much like ephedra. However green tea has never shown an adverse reaction in human beings except for nervousness in those who are ultra-sensitive to caffeine.

The best way to take green tea is through a pill supplement, and you can also drink green tea if you want a little extra. Most weight loss victors who used green tea took a pill before every meal. Green tea is one of the favorites within the natural weight loss community, and out of all the natural weight loss supplements, green tea truly reigns supreme.

These are only a few of the natural weight loss supplements available for purchase. Remember to only ingest products that are FDA approved, and do your homework by reading up on what you are putting into your body before you actually do so. It may not only help you to shed pounds, it might also save your life.

Hi Angelica,

I don't have any one pill to recommend. I prefer drinking green tea myself. Here are a few green tea pills that others have recommended:

  • Mega T Green Tea pills (told they don't make you feel jittery)
  • Natures Way Green Tea Extract (170 mg)
  • Jarrow Green Tea 5:1 (500 mg)

Before taking this or any supplement, it is a good idea to talk over dosage with your doctor.
