Honey and Cinnamon for Weight Loss
From LoveToKnow Diet
With all of the recent hype, you may be wondering if you can use honey and cinnamon for weight loss. The jury is still out. This article takes a look at the claim and examine the health benefits of each to see how they may or may not relate to weight loss.
Honey and Cinnamon for Weight Loss: The Claim
The formula for honey and cinnamon for weight loss is ubiquitous.
- Use honey and cinnamon in a 1:2 ratio (one part cinnamon, two parts honey)
- Put the cinnamon in a cup or bowl.
- Boil one cup of water.
- Pour water over the cinnamon and let it steep for 30 minutes.
- Once the liquid has cooled, add honey. Always add honey to the cooled liquid – hot liquid will destroy the enzymes in the raw honey.
- Drink half of the resulting “tea” before going to bed. Cover and refrigerate the rest.
- Drink the other half first thing in the morning.
- Do not add anything to the recipe. Only drink on an empty stomach, first thing in the morning and right before bed.
Typical claims of benefits that you will find for drinking this concoction include:
- Inches will be lost before you will notice the scale creeping downward.
- The cinnamon and honey cleanses parasites, fungus and bacteria out of the digestive tract.
- You may experience side effects due to the release of toxicity.
- You may experience increased energy, better sex drive and a better mood.
- The formula will block your body from gaining fat.
To the frustrated dieter looking for a panacea, the honey and cinnamon for weight loss cure might seem like a dream come true, but does it work? Take a look at each of the ingredients and their potential benefits on health.
All about Honey
Honey is a simple carbohydrate made up of two other simple carbohydrates, fructose and glucose. It is processed in your body much in the same way that other simple sugars are – by a release of insulin to control the level of sugar in the blood. Increased or poorly controlled insulin in the body can cause an increase in the body’s propensity to store fat.
Listed health benefits of honey include:
- Energy booster – It is a simple sugar and is quickly processed by the body, so honey can provide a quick boost of energy, much as any other simple sugar does.
- Immune system booster – Honey does have antioxidant and antibacterial properties. In this, it differentiates itself from table sugar.
- Used as a remedy for many ailments – Its antibacterial and antiseptic qualities have led people to use honey as a topical treatment for cuts and burns for generations. It is also a popular folk remedy for sore throats.
About Cinnamon
Cinnamon comes from the grated bark of an evergreen tree. A quick search of the Internet shows that cinnamon claims the following health benefits:
- May positively affect LDL
- Has a regulatory effect on blood sugar
- One study shows that cinnamon can stop medication-resistant yeast infections.
- Is an anti-coagulant
- Is a decent source of manganese, fiber, iron and calcium
- Contains polyphenols and antioxidants
Weight Loss With Honey and Cinnamon
There is no magic bullet for weight loss. Honey and cinnamon both can be beneficial to health, but no studies back up the claims made about this miracle weight-loss aid.
Like other weight loss aids, you may want to take this one with a grain of salt. It’s true that cinnamon can positively control blood sugar; however, taking it with honey – which has the opposite effect on blood sugar – seems as if one effect would cancel out the other.
It won’t hurt to try it, but it is highly doubtful that it will result in the phenomenal weight loss promised. As always, the key to weight loss is eating a healthy, controlled diet and exercising. By making sure that you burn more calories than you eat, you will be well on your way to a healthier body without needing to resort to magical cures..

Hi Lina,
I've had people comment who say this works great for them and others who say it doesn't work at all. As for the "parts" that means equal measurement. So if your measurement is a teaspoon, it would be one teaspoon of cinnamon and 2 teaspoons of honey.
Let me know how it works.

Some people prefer counting carbs to counting calories, but for me counting calories has always worked. Tell your mum good luck with this. :)
