Foods That Cause Fat Burning
From LoveToKnow Diet
Scientists and dieters have conflicting opinions about foods that cause fat burning. Often scientists discount this claim as a possibility despite the firm support of dieters worldwide.
The Premise
The concept behind foods that cause fat burning is that it takes more energy for your body to digest the food than the food has in calories. Dieting experts indicate that foods high in fiber, but low in calorie are ideal candidates for fat burning foods. However, foods work differently with each dieter, as each dieter has a different metabolism. The rate at which these fat burning foods work will never be identical across the board. The faster your metabolism is to begin with, the better these foods work to help your body burn fat.
Foods That Cause Fat Burning
Water
Although it isn't really a food, water is the first on this list. Studies have shown that dieters who consume quantities of water throughout their day have a better chance at dieting success. It's debatable how much the water actually helps your body burn fat. However, it makes sense that if you drink it at very cold temperatures, your body must exert energy to warm it up to digest, thus causing your body to burn fat.
Additionally, the consumption of water throughout your day helps fill you up, keeps you hydrated and makes you forget about food unless you really are hungry.
Caffeine
Ok, never in a million years would it be advised for you to become a coffee-aholic or a soda pop junkie, but caffeine is a proven chemical to speed up your metabolism. It makes your heart beat faster and your body's metabolism more efficient. A safe alternative to soda pop and coffee is green tea. It even contains various properties that have been said to help prevent various diseases, including cancer.
Salad and Fruits and Vegetables
Before any meal, it's a great idea to enjoy a salad. Firstly, lettuce is considered one of those negative calorie foods that actually uses more calories to digest it than it actually contains. Secondly, fruits and vegetables are great for your health. You really cannot eat too many of these in their raw form, even if you are dieting.
Lastly, eating a salad or some carrot or celery sticks before your meal helps to fill you up with healthy calories so you don't overindulge on your main meal. Just be sure that the dressing you've used on your salad or your dipping sticks is fat-free!
Whole Grains
When given a choice, select whole grains instead of white flour and white sugar products. Whole grains take longer for your body to digest, leaving you feeling fuller longer and causing your metabolism to work harder. Studies indicate that white flour products can help to create imbalances in your sugar levels.
Grapefruit
In addition to grapefruit being a wonderful source of Vitamin C, it's also known to reduce insulin levels. This has been linked to promoting weight loss.
General Dieting Strategy
It's pretty well common knowledge among dieters that muscle burns more calories than fat. In addition to trying to eat foods that stimulate the burning of fat within your body, it's also a smart idea to start an exercise plan to build muscle mass. This would include strength training. You don't have to purchase an expensive set of weights or sign up for a costly gym membership. Instead, you can use things around the house like bottles of water or purchase inexpensive dumbbells from a sporting goods store. It's not so important how much you lift, but it's important that you do plenty of repetitions with your weights.
Aerobic exercise should be figured into your exercise plan, too. It is good for your health and helps to burn fat all over your body.
Of course, general eating tips like portion control, choosing low-fat foods, curbing calories and eating five small meals a day may promote your diet success, as well.
