Fat Smash Diet

From LoveToKnow Diet

The Fat Smash Diet has been created by Dr. Ian Smith to help dieters lose weight and to convert to a more healthy way of living.

The Fat Smash Diet Program

The diet aims to help dieters lose 12 lbs in three weeks. It also offers a maintenance program to help keep the weight off. Promoters of this diet stress that this is not a fad diet; this is a case of dieting the healthy way by eating well balanced meals combined with plenty of exercise.

Although the diet does promise quick results, which may appear to be at odds with traditional advice of losing weight slowly when dieting, this is not achieved through drastic measures such as fasting. For more information about the contents of the diet, please take a look at this LoveToKnow article that looks at the diet in more detail.

The reason why the diet is called the Fat Smash Diet is to emphasize that the dieter is going to be ‘smashing’ bad behavior and making a general improvement in lifestyle. As with any diet, to have long-term effectiveness then it must eventually become second nature and a healthy lifestyle needs to be easily maintained.

Balancing Daily Food Intake with Energy Burned

One of the aims of the diet is to make it easy and straightforward to follow. Often people give up diets because they are too complicated to follow or because foods are difficult and time consuming to prepare. Therefore when this diet was created, the ease of use was paramount, being comprised of ‘normal’ regular foods. The diet does not require calories counting as the foods which form the diet are all foods with high water content and a low GI like celery, tomato, cucumber. Foods such as watermelon are not recommended because although they contain plenty of water, they are also high in sugars and therefore have a high GI.

The diet works on the simple premise that to lose weight you must consume less calories a day than your body burns up. This forces the body to turn to its own energy supplies. These energy supplies are stored as fat, therefore the body draws on the fat supplies resulting in loss of weight and inches.

To speed up weight loss, the amount of exercise is increased. This means that the body is burning more energy and using more from its own supplies. Exercise needn’t be hard or require special equipment. Instead, simple exercise such as walking up stairs rather than taking the elevator, or walking to the corner store rather than driving will also help use up some unwanted calories.

Exercise programs needn’t be onerous, and taking a brisk walk several times a week, going for a cycle ride or an early morning swim are all excellent ways to not only help lose weight, but also tone up the body.

Support for Dieters

Healthy Eating is an important part of dieting.

When following any diet, the dieter can start to suffer from diet fatigue. This is the point when perhaps some weight has been lost, but the diet is getting boring. This often has coincided with a holiday or special occasion when the dieter has been tempted away from their normal diet foods and it can be difficult to regain the focus and enthusiasm that the dieter felt at the start.

There are many ways that the dieter can look for support during these difficult times. Often local clubs and diet groups can be found, where dieters can meet and exchange feedback and generally provide encouragement. In addition to this, however, there are many online discussion groups, forums and blogs where dieters meet ‘virtually’. Some of these forums and groups support any diet for instance the Diet Power forum. Other forums , such as the forum on the official Fat Smash Diet site or the Fat Smash Forum are specifically for followers of this diet. Some bloggers also write about their experiences and either reading blogs or writing your own can be a great way to keep motivated.

By joining these virtual communities, dieters anywhere, including those in remote and rural communities, can meet like minded people who can share motivation tips, experiences of the diet, and generally work towards a common goal.
