Atkins Diet Menu Plan
From LoveToKnow Diet
Losing weight is as simple as finding an Atkins Diet menu plan. Dieting involves changing the way you think and the way you eat. Sometimes, the most difficult part of dieting is making sure you have the right ingredients and foods readily available to cook and eat. With the Atkins Diet, you can plan out your meals for the whole week if you have easy to use menus.
What Is the Atkins Diet?
Dr. Robert C. Atkins created the diet in the 1960’s, conceiving it from an article he read in the “Journal of the American Medical Association”. He used the information from the article to battle his own weight problem. He then went on to successfully treat over ten thousand patients and create the Atkins diet in a series of books. Although he has revised some of his original ideas regarding this diet, he truly believes in the essential basics that he began the program with. The diet continues to be extremely popular. It focuses on the theory that a low carbohydrate diet means a reduction in weight.
Dr. Atkins believes that the real reason people suffer from weight problem is the over abundance of refined carbs, including sugars and white flour in their diet. He also believes that trans fats are at the root of obesity as well. He places great emphasis on changing eating habits, but he also emphasizes exercise.
Atkins Diet Menu Plan
Incorporating an Atkins Diet menu plan into your daily life is as simple as setting up a weekly calendar, choosing the meals you want to use, and creating a food list. Then, it’s time to stock your refrigerator, freezer, and pantry, so that you can easily access those foods. These steps rule out any excuse you might have to sabotage your diet. You can no longer say you don’t have the right foods, so you can’t start dieting! Here are a few menu plans to help you get started.
Breakfast Menus
With an Atkins Diet menu plan, you can choose a variety of foods to eat, varying those foods from one day or week to the next. An easy menu might include an omelet with bacon or ham, along with onions and tomato slices. Here’s an easy recipe for you to use as well.
- 1 cup ham
- 3 eggs (scrambled)
- chili powder
Cut up the ham in to small cubes or strips. Brown the ham in a small amount of butter. Next, beat the eggs slightly before adding them to the ham. Scramble the eggs and ham, and add ¼ cup of shredded cheddar cheese. Season with the chili powder. Carb intake for this menu is two grams.
Lunch Menus
Atkins menus are easy to use, and you probably have the ingredients you need in your pantry or freezer right now. You could add a simple tossed salad to a spicy burger with cheese. Just don’t include the bun! You could also try the following menu.
- 1/2 pound ground beef
- 2 cups lettuce
- 2 TBS sour cream
- 2 TBS salsa
- 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Thoroughly brown the ground beef. Wash and separate lettuce leaves and arrange on a dish. Spoon the beef evenly onto the lettuce, and then add layers of cheese, salsa and sour cream. Carb intake for this menu is four grams.
Supper Menus
Do you dread creating menu plans for supper? You’ve worked hard all day, and the last thing you want to do is come home and cook for two hours, right? However, you also want to stick to your diet, so you need to fix something that will work for you and everyone else in your family. How about a nice dinner with baked salmon and steamed broccoli with lemon juice and pepper or a crust-less quiche that has only seven carbs? This Hawaiian chicken recipe is yummy, too, and one serving has only four carbs!
- 2 lbs stew meat
- 1 - 12 ounce bottle Carb Options(TM) Asian teriyaki marinade
- 4 pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs
- 1 pound deli ham
- 1 - 20 ounce can of pineapple rings
Marinate chicken in the teriyaki sauce overnight or for at least four to six hours. Line a large baking sheet with foil, place the ham in enough stacks to accommodate each chicken thigh. Place marinated chicken on the stacks of ham, add a pineapple ring to each chicken, and bake it at 375F for about 35 minutes.
