The Diet Industry and the Internet

While the Internet is a terrific source of information when you are researching a new product, such as Acaiburn, it can also be a minefield. Diet supplement manufacturers have placed pages all over the Internet that appear to be legitimate diet product review sites. Unfortunately, these sites are all generated by whichever company is selling the diet pill of the moment, and are peppered with “testimonials” and “reviews” written by people who claim to have used the products. In most cases, these are not legitimate reviews or testimonials – they are pages planted on the Internet with search engine optimized terms so that when you Google the product name, the first three to four pages of search results are all information written by the diet products’ marketing departments. Acaiburn is no different. Googling Acaiburn will give you two results in the first several pages of results.

  1. Pages planted by the company that manufactures Acaiburn.
  2. Pages planted by companies that compete with Acaiburn.

Even user forums have been seeded by the company. Amongst legitimate posts about the product, you will find posts written by writers hired by the company peppered with fantastic claims of amazing weight loss. The bottom line? When doing research, proceed with caution! If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

The Rise of Acaiburn

The origins of the acai berry diet craze can be found on the Oprah Winfrey show. Both Dr. Mehmet Oz and Dr. Perricone listed the acai berry as a super food loaded with antioxidants – and it is. The acai berry, a fruit from a Brazilian palm tree is a delicious fruit that has much to recommend it:

  • It has ten times more antioxidants than red grapes. Antioxidants are essential in prevention of aging, and can fight inflammation throughout the body.
  • It has ten to 30 times the anthocyanins of red wine. Anthocyanins are the pigment that cause berries and fruits to appear red or purple. They are believed to have antioxidant properties.
  • The berries contain an ideal blend of healthy fats, fiber and phytosterols that contribute to heart and digestive health.
  • Acai has essential amino acids and minerals that contribute to muscle regeneration.

Shortly after the recommendation of the acai berry as a superfood, acai diet products such as Acaiburn began popping up all over the Internet as the Oprah Winfrey recommended diet. A visit to Oprah Winfrey’s website, however, reveals a statement by Oprah that she is not associated, nor does she endorse any acai berry diet that is using her name.

Scams Revealed

Many news outlets, including ABC news, reveals the dark underbelly of Internet acai diet plans.

According to ABC, “The growing problem of questionable acai sales on the Internet has reached proportions never before seen by the Center for Science in the Public Interest, according to David Schardt, senior nutritionist for the center.”

The Better Business Bureau warns that acai berry supplements peddled on the Internet may not make you slim, but they will remove some of the fat from your wallet. According to Steve Cox, a spokesperson for the BBB, “Many businesses across the country are using the same selling model for their acai products: they lure customers in with celebrity endorsements and free trial offers, and then lock them in by making it extremely difficult to cancel the automatic delivery of more acai products every month.”

The Acai Burn Complaints bulletin board lists a number of consumer complaints and warnings about acai diet products, including Acaiburn. The bottom line? Do your research on legitimate outlets such as the BBB and ABC news and proceed with caution.

Getting Real About Weight Loss

There’s a reason why miracle weight loss products such as Acaiburn reel in so many people. Being overweight is an emotional issue that can feel like a personal failing. Losing weight is hard work. When a promised miracle comes along that seems to be endorsed by celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, it’s easy to hope that this is finally the one thing that will help you.

The weight loss industry is a multi-million dollar industry. The truth is, however, that you don’t need to spend any money to lose weight. There is no miracle cure. True and lasting weight loss comes from a combination of a healthy, low-calorie diet and exercise. If you eat fewer calories than you burn, you will lose weight.
