It is said that it takes 21 days to establish a new habit. That means we can establish a new habit before summer gets here. The goal here is to work toward healthy lifestyle habits.

If you want to take steps to a healthier lifestyle whether it involves losing weight or not, I encourage you to join us on June 1. Post your goals here in this forum and lets spur one another on to healthy living.

I’ve been giving my goals for the 21 Day Challenge some thought and I do hope others will show up to take part. In the past when I’ve issued a 21 Day Challenge, one of the things that makes it work is the give and take between participants.

I’ve decided I want to keep a short list so I don’t feel overwhelmed.  Right now it looks like this:

*Drink 8 eight-ounce glasses of water daily
*Exercise 3-5 days a week
*Only eat when hungry

Part of me wants to say I’ll exercise five days a week—but I’m trying to keep this realistic.

I would love to do this.  I am in!!  Here are my goals:

Drink 6-8 glasses of water
Do Pilates or kick boxing at least 3 times per week
Eat my fruit and vegis everyday.
Stop snacking between meal

Great idea.  I will start June 1st!

I’m on day 7 of a sugar detox, so perhaps it’s cheating to pick something I’m already doing. But boy is this ever hard! It’s amazing how dependent I’ve been on sugar. And how sneaky it is, worming its way into ever food in my pantry. So I’m sugar free for this challenge. Great idea!

Hi Christine,

Great to have you on board! Are you going to weigh in your first day? I think I’m going to weigh the first day and then not again until the 21 days are over.

Great goal, Jeanne.

Sugar free—I’ve been there, and where am I now? Back to the same over indulging cravings. I read in a book called Sugar Blues how sugar used to only be something the rich could get their hands on when it was prescribed by the doctor. Yeah, a drug. Do you believe it? I do.

I think staying sugar free for 21 days is perfect for the challenge. I’m hoping we see more people join our ranks, too! Keep your fingers crossed.

Hi Donna, Yes, I will weigh in on day one.  I was at the doctors this morning and I weighed 4 lbs over the maximum weight for my height.  Ugh.  I am very excited to get started.  Thanks for starting this program for me.  It helps when you have other people motivating you.

Hi Christine,

I totally agree. I’ve talked to others about joining us. I hope they do. I really think having support from each other helps make a difference.

I’m in! I recently hurt my hip and am still recovering so running is out, but I can manage a 20-30 minute walk at least 3-4 days per week. Also, I’ll try to:

* Drink more water
* Eat more fresh fruits and veggies

I don’t have a lot of weight to lose but I would like to feel better.

Hi all,

Thought I’d check in since it’s day 1 of the challenge. I’m glad to have you all here because life feels out of control today. Well not out of control, but too busy to think of myself and my health. Mondays tend to be very full days, and today my husband is home because there is not enough work. Having him here usually tends to mean bigger meals than normal during the day. But I have goals! I’m not going to eat unless I’m hungry.

I’ve filled a 32 oz water bottle and plan to have it gone by noon and then refill it. That’s the plan for now, to make sure I drink my water.

The challenges I face today are that we are going out for dinner AND I have such a full day I don’t know how I’ll fit exercise in. However, my goal is 3-5 days a week so I’m being realistic. If I can, I will.

I’ll let you all know how it goes tomorrow.

Hi Donna,

Well I am just getting over being sick and I am still not feeling great.  In other words, I won’t be exercising today.  I am drinking my water.  I will not be snacking and I do plan on stopping sugar.  I have done this before and I have never felt better.  So far so good today.  I will keep you updated.

Hi Christine,

It always seems like there is something to keep us from following our plan to exercise and eat right. I’m proud of you for being wise and not pushing yourself to exercise, but also to still drink your water and not snacking.

I made it through the day on target, and I’ll share more about that tomorrow!

Roberta!

Welcome to the 21 Day Challenge!

Your goals look great. Seems we all need to learn to drink our water. Sounds easy enough, and for me the first 32 ounces are no problem. It’s the second 32 that catch me off guard.

I’m planning to walk for exercise. The trick is to learn to fit it into my schedule. I’m looking forward to making it a habit AGAIN! I always feel so much better when I do.

Great to have you here.

Hi everyone,

I know it is only day three, but I’m excited to have made it through the first two days. I even walked for 30 minutes yesterday, and when I went out to lunch I ate sensibly—I think it helped to know you all were here and I didn’t want to face you and say I already blew it on day two. The only thing I could have done better is that I ate a handful of peanuts in the shell last night—but I didn’t eat half the bag so that’s progress.

I also won tickets to the Renaissance Faire this weekend. Great! Oh, all that food! Like I said there’s always something to try and pull us off our path to better eating. One day at a time, we’ll build new habits that WILL make a long term difference.
