My husband lost 25 pounds on Atkins. It’s really aggravating to me that he can look at a diet and drop weight, but I gained weight on Atkins. Oh well. |

Confession is good for the soul. I lost 32 pounds in 2004, and regained it all. I’m back on that journey again, plus now the doc wants me to drop more weight…which would make my new goal a 50 pound weight loss. Sigh. Well, one day at a time, one step at a time, one bite at a time! |

Ugh…just over a year or a year and a half ago, I was able to drop about 35 to 40 pounds using the low-carb approach. It worked well, and I felt great. Then, as the story usually goes, I started eating “normal” again and the weight came back. I think there’s definitely a lot to be said for not “dieting” but changing your eating habits for life. I’m back to climbing that mountain again this year, but still looking for the right approach that will work and will last for life. But I do think the most common range people can lose is 25 to 35 pounds. |

Oh gosh, where do I even begin? I’ve been on so many diets, lost weight on them, and then gained it all back. I lost 15 pounds each on Atkins, Rice Diet, and Nutrisystem. I lost 12 pounds on Medifast. If I had stayed on any of those diets—or even kept off the weight I lost—I’d be well beyond goal. But no, I keep losing the same pounds over and over! The first time I tried the 1st Personal Diet, I lost 21 pounds. Then I allowed myself to get derailed by Mother’s Day and my birthday and never went back on. Since that’s the diet that worked best for me, I’m back on it. So far, I’ve lost 13.8 pounds. I’m dreading Mother’s Day and my birthday since I’ve had problems with them in the past, but I’m going to keep my eye on the goal this year. There will be time for birthday cake later. |

I lost 60 pounds on Weight Watchers over 10 years ago and I am still in my goal. It is all about eating healthy, drinking water and moderation. Exercise is my challenge. |

I tend to do best with diets that require me to count calories. Not that I like to count calories. I’ve lost weight on the Free to Be Thin, The Hallelujah Diet, and Prism. In fact with Prism I lost all my weight—almost 30 pounds. Then I did not stay within the maintenance guidelines and guess what. Gained it all back plus some. Since then I’ve dropped about 17 pounds by being more sensible that not and am reading an older book called the Weigh Down Diet which teaches you to listen to your body and eat when your physically hungry. Still not an easy approach because I’ve come to realize how much I tend to nibble, snack and overeat for reasons other than true hunger. Donna |

The most I have ever lost on a diet was 65 pounds when I was in my 20s. Right now I’m struggling to get to 60 pounds off. I’ve lost 52 since having my daughter 1 year ago. I still have 40 to go. Pretty much at a standstill right now, but at least the pounds aren’t coming back. Plans that work best for me force me to plan my meals ahead of time. The Flat Belly Diet is one of my favorites. I make poor decisions when I don’t have a plan. It’s very easy to eat without thinking, so I’m finally going to adopt a food diary into my program. |

Hi Tammi, Having a plan works for me, too. Otherwise, if I wait until I’m hungry I end up wondering what to have and looking in the refrigerator and cupboards can lead me onto the path of overeating. When I learn to have a plan, I’m even prepared when I have errands to run. A plan makes a difference, and I’m glad you brought it up, because I haven’t had a plan lately and it shows! Donna |
