The cookie diet has been in the media a lot lately.  I think this is good and bad.  It is great that it is working for people.  Unfortunately, my daughter saw it on the news.  She said, “Look,Mommy, she tried different ways to lose weight and the only thing that worked was to eat cookies.”  Okay, so we had to have a little chat about healthy eating and body image.  I also turned the channel to a more age appropriate show.

I would like to know what everyone thinks of the cookie diet and why it is the next big thing.

Hi Christine,

I actually had the opportunity to interview Dr. Siegal who designed this diet for his obese patients. He created cookies that were nutritious and are used as meal replacements under a doctor’s care. Since then another person came out with a similar diet, but seems to me they are more in it for the money. That’s just my opinion.

The original cookies for this diet were made in Dr. Siegal’s kitchen in an effort to help his patients. The cookies are easy to carry, satisfying, but they aren’t exactly delicious. They are a healthy way to lose weight for people who can’t seem to control their food intake.

Thanks for the information Donna.  That was a good interview.  Dr. Siegal has obviously found something that works for people.  It is getting a lot of attention.  As you mentioned in your interview, my concern would be maintenance.  It does not teach you how to eat healthy.  I have seen so many people lose weight just to gain back more.  To me it is better to learn what to eat, drink water, and exercise.
