How the 21 Day Challenge works: It is said that it takes 21 days to establish a new habit. That means we can establish a new habit in a month. The purpose of the 21 Day Challenge is to work toward healthier lifestyle habits. What those habits are will be up to you. We are not promoting one type of diet or specific habits. Instead we are encouraging each one to take steps toward healthy eating. If you want to establish a healthier lifestyle, whether it involves losing weight or not, I encourage you to join us on September 1. Post your goals here in this forum and let’s spur one another on to healthy living. The September 21 Day Challenge will go from September 1-21. Feel free to post before then, introduce yourself and discuss what habits and goals you are considering. Donna |

Thanks for starting this new thread, Donna! I’ve been eating well and exercising for the past week or so and have dropped 1 whole pound, woooo! LOL. For September, I want to keep up the exercise and shoot for at least 4 days per week, preferably 5, even if it’s just walking around the block but I know I could benefit from something more strenuous. I also want to try more meatless meals. Those are my September goals. |

Hi Del, Great to have you on board and to hear that you are headed in the right direction with your weight. Exercise is key to a healthy lifestyle. One thing I’ve incorporated in my life is that if I’m on the phone I have to walk. I have a house conducive to this. So if I’m on the phone for 20 minutes, I’ve walked for 20 minutes. It’s one more way to stay more active. As for meatless meals. I eat about 90% vegetarian. It’s an easy way to cut saturated fats. Donna |

Hi Del & Donna, I am ready for the September challenge. My kids will be in school and I should be able to get in 1 or 2 palates classes in a week. That is my goal - palates, palates, palates. I will also keep up my walking of 3 miles 4-5 times per week, eating healthy and drinking my water. Thanks Donna for starting another challenge. I look forward to seeing everyone’s progress. |

Hi Christine, Great to have you for another challenge. I’ve been sick this week and so have done little exercise, and truthfully my eating has consisted of whatever is easy to grab. I’m looking forward to eating better and exercise as soon as I’m feeling better. How convenient to get sick in the “off week”. I’ll post my goals before the first. Right now my head is very foggy. Hi Donna, Great thread! I’m in. For September, my goals are: 1. No more drinking my calories! This means I’m cutting out soda and mocha. Since I don’t enjoy diet drinks, my only drink will be water. Good luck, everyone! |

Misty! Great to have you aboard for the 21 Day Challenge September style. I pretty much drink water and some coffee…but that’s black. Other than that, the only other thing I drink anymore is fresh vegetable juice if I get up enough gumption to actually make it. You plan to get up every two hours is a good one. I have a friend who is a prolific author and he requires himself to do some exercise like for five minutes, every hour. Lately, my exercise has been walking while I’m on the phone. I have a friend that calls at least 3 times a week and talks for 20-30 minutes. It’s perfect. Donna |

Hi everyone, Tomorrow is the big day. Day number one of the September 21 Day Challenge. I’ve been sick this past week and really just ate whatever was convenient, and exercise…well I didn’t have any energy to exercise. However, I’m on the mend. My energy is much better and the lingering cough is becoming less lingering. I even walked for 20 minutes today. As for my goals, here they are: 1. Stay between 1,000-1,000 calories a day Mon. - Sat. Sundays eat reasonably, but don’t bother counting…kind of like a day off from that aspect. Look at that. Just three little things. Now how hard can that be. Donna |

Hey everyone, Sorry I haven’t posted as much lately its been very busy Parasailing. This past weekend my best friends mom died, so its been a tough couple days and the diet suffered for it on Friday and Saturday. But I guess after 7 months of a grueling diet and excercise plan one weekend of indulgence is acceptable. Well I’m back now things are slowing down and will have more time to post and chat. Hope everyone is doing well, hope you’re feeling better Donna. The September challenge is here its time to stay focused and on track. My goals remain the same: 1. Excercise 6 days a week |

Hi Miles, I was wondering with the holiday weekend coming up if you would still be busy. I’m glad to see you here. I’m actually feeling almost normal and it feels so good. I didn’t eat very healthy during the last week when I didn’t feel good. It was much easier to grab what was convenient…or so I was telling myself. Anyhow, I woke up this morning feeling motivated. Knowing you all were out here and ready to cheer me on. It really makes a difference for me to have someone to check in with. So far today has been a breeze with the eating. Only walked for 20 minutes as I’m still a little on the tired side and don’t want to push it. Donna |

Hi Nancy, Great to see you here! Welcome to the 21 Day Challenge. 30 pounds down—congratulations on that. You’ve got the momentum going now and I look forward to watching your drop your weight on this journey. For myself, I still struggle but when I step back and look at the big picture I see that I am instilling new habits a little at a time and my weight is going in the right direction. I’m currently working on a non-fiction book that includes recipes and that does not help as it plants thoughts of food in my mind! LOL Donna |

Hi Nancy, CONGRATS on your progress so far it can be a difficult journey at times but this forum really helps alot. Sounds like you are well on your way, I just recently came through a pretty rough spot last week, Ive been on a very strict 1200 calorie low fat diet and also excercise vigorously 6 days a week without exceptions. But last week after doing this for the last 7 months and losing over 160 pounds I was becoming wore down and unmotivated but I came to the forum read a few posts, posted a few thoughts and am now reinvigorated and ready to march foward. Im sure you have had the same feelings at one time or another also. Its great having you here keep up the great work I know you will. Hope everyone else is doing wonderful(hope your’e feeling better Donna). Im trying to relax today and get ready for a busy Labor Day weekend on the lake Parasailing. I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday. Talk to you soon, |

Hi Everyone, It was great to ready the posts this morning. I needed the motivation. Welcome to the forum Nancy. It is great to have you here. Last week my ankle was really bothering me again, so I did not walk all week. Now that school is starting and I am working, I don’t know when to fit in my exercise. I do know how important it is, so I am going to make it work one way or another. I have a walking partner waiting for me and a gym partner, so I have no excuse. Right now my goal is to watch what I eat, drink my water, take my vitamins and commit to an exercise program. Thanks for your posts and good luck to everyone this month!!!!! Christine |

Hi Miles, I’m finally really doing better. Getting back my zip…well as much zip as I get. I only walked two days this week but I think I’ll be back on track next week now that I’m feeling better. Had one rough day this week, but am on track with my eating again. Used to be if I failed to eat right I’d go into a tailspin and binge because I might as well really go all the way and THEN go back on my diet. When I step back from that thinking, I see how ridiculous it really is but while I was living it, it seemed perfectly natural! Hope you can get a little rest in with the busy holiday. Donna |
