One Week Fasting Recap

by Misty K on September 09, 2009

My first two days on the water fast went just as I expected. I basically felt fine, although my energy bottomed out every afternoon. Apparently, I've gotten in the habit of a treat every day around 3. Sometimes it is a cookie or a muffin, sometimes something a little healthier, but always something with a bit of sugar. I really felt the absence of that sugar in my system. Both days, I got so tired that I had to take a quick nap.

Then, on day 3, I woke with a horrible headache. I thought it was sugar withdrawals or a healing crisis, some form of detox. When I started feeling nauseous, I thought my body was getting rid of toxins. When I spiked a fever, I couldn't deny it: I was sick.

That first day, I managed to stick to water. It was actually easy not to eat when I was so sick to my stomach. The next day, however, my daughter had the same symptoms. Faced with the stress of being sick and taking care of a sick kid, I caved. I had everybody's favorite medicine, chicken noodle soup. The next couple days were spent eating the types of food you eat when you're ill: crackers, soup, mashed potatoes.

Today I'm feeling better and am back on my fast. I'm determined, no matter what, to complete a full week.
