Low Carb Diet Plans

One of the oldest low carb diet plans is the Harvey-Banting Diet which Banting published at his own expense back in 1862. His success and experience eating a low carbohydrate diet was published in a pamphlet titled: Letter of Corpulence.

It wasn't until Dr. Atkins came onto the scene with his diet in 1972 in which he lays out four different phases to his low carb diet that this way of eating really took off. This approach was something new to the diet world, and amid a flourish of controversy it caught on with the general weight watching public because of its quick results.

In 1995 two doctors from Colorado took a different low carb approach with their Protein Power Diet which stressed:

  • Diet
  • Nutrition
  • Supplementation
  • Exercise

While many people love The South Beach Diet which came out in 2003, critics say that it sometimes contradicts itself. However, the book has been revised and maybe those issues have been resolved.

The fact is that there are a lot of low carb diet plans out there. The key is to find one that is healthy and still allows you to eat a balanced diet. Before starting a low carb diet ask your doctor for his/her opinion to be sure that the diet you choose is best for you.
