Lifestyle Weight Loss

by Donna S. on February 10, 2009

In my Weight Gain Stories post, I promised to talk a bit more about the reasons we gain weight. If your weight gain is attributed to lifestyle, that means you eat too much and exercise too little. Living like this encourages the pounds to sneak on little by little until one day you realize, "I'm overweight." At this point, you have two choices, do nothing and continue on the road to poor future health or decide to change your lifestyle.

If you've gained weight due to eating too much and exercising too little, the key is to change that pattern if you want to lose weight. You know the old saying, "To do the same thing and expect a different result is the definition of insanity." It is somewhat crazy to expect change if you are not willing to make it. The real question for many is how do I change? I've eaten like this all my life.

First, educate yourself. For those whom need a lifestyle diet change, it's important to choose a diet that brings lasting change to your life. This automatically eliminates fad diets. Instead, you may want to count calories or carbs to educate yourself as to how much you're eating and how that needs to change. A healthy diet will also recommend regular exercise. Once you get a better handle on how much you should eat for your age, height and gender and get into the habit of exercise, it will be easier to maintain your weight loss. This lifestyle promotes better health. Enjoy!
