Have Your Cake and Eat It Too

by Donna S. on December 01, 2009

Baking is part of the holiday tradition for many of us. It is also the reason for weight gain for those who don't just enjoy baking but also look forward to the eating tradition connected with it. Fifth on the list of 9 ways to avoid holiday weight gain is: Don't make holiday treats unless you plan to give them away.

This plan is perfect for the holidays because it works on more than one level. It allows you to enjoy a few of the cookies or other treats and also lets you spread holiday cheer by giving away homemade goodies. It's almost a way to "have your cake and eat it too."

To make this tip work, I suggest you don't make your goodies too far in advance. If they sit in a cookie tin for a day or two and you have a weakness toward sweets, that tin is like a ticking time bomb just waiting for you to start snacking. Consider making some healthy holiday desserts, too. That way when the snacking monster strikes, you have more than one option.

If you must make your treats in advance, place them in a box or gift tin and wrap it. Put a bow on top, add the little gift card and hopefully you won't be tempted to open someone else's gift. This is just one of the 9 ways to avoid holiday weight gain. If you've missed the first four tips just click previous to read more.
