Blueberries and Weight Loss

I have to admit, I haven't been of fan of blueberries for most of my life, but then my exposure was limited to blueberry muffins or pie. Two years ago, after I moved to Georgia, I found a blueberry orchard that lets you pick a gallon of berries for $5.00. To my surprise, fresh blueberries are great in smoothies. In fact, if you blend a half cup of blueberries and a frozen banana with water or milk, it tastes like a milkshake but without all the sugar and fat. In fact, I use rice milk to avoid the saturated fat.

Today I saw on the news that the University of Michigan Cardiovascular Center recently completed a study that shows eating blueberries might be the answer to getting rid of belly fat. How much better can it get? I finally learn I actually do like blueberries when they are fresh and I have belly fat to lose!

That's because these tiny berries are a powerhouse of phytochemicals and antioxidants. Test results were even more positive when blueberries were added to a low fat diet. I looked into a bit more and the study was conducted on rats and not people, but when blueberries equaled two percent of their diet the result was less abdominal fat. Not only that but other health benefits noted included:

I don't know about you, but I'm ready to add some blueberries to my diet. It certainly can't hurt, and it might even make a big difference in my health and waistline.
